Tundra Assault Unveiled On Wednesday at NTEA
In a private session closed to the public, and closed to other truck manufacturers, an early first-look at new, yet-to-be-launched pickup trucks. On Wednesday, September 20, Toyota will participate in an NTEA measuring session, where it will show, for the first time, two truck configurations developed specifically for work truck customers who consider their full-size pickup truck the most important tool in their bag.

The new Tundra long bed will be available in Regular- and Double Cab versions. The Tundra Double Cab Long Bed will be the longest pickup in the Toyota truck lineup. It will be able to carry a crew of six plus cargo. The Tundra Regular Cab Long Bed will provide the largest interior volume in its class. Both long bed configurations will come with a choice of three engines, including a 5.7 liter V8 that offers maximum towing of well over 10,000 pounds, and a payload capacity to compete with the best in the half ton class.

just like GM gets ripped on for fake wood, this needs to get ripped for a sea of cheezy fake aluminum/nickel/whatever u call it.

that center armrest looks as boring and uninspired as the crap u can buy at an autoparts store....like those plastic add-on organizer/cupholders u place over the floor hump.

The interior is a bit odd. And I'm sure this car will be very boring to drive, just like any other toyota/lexus.

While the domestics need to worry from a quality perspective, they sure don't need to be afraid of this trucks styling.....

this truck isnt a beaut its a beast. why cant you yuppies realize this. its not an escalade, its actually meant for one thing. WORK. and if you cant appreciate that, then you prob never worked an actual day in your life. if u want a truck for looks go pimp out and lower a s-10 xtreme and have a completely useless vehicle that seats 2.5. do you think people are gonna care about the interior when its covered in mud/sawdust/metal shavings etc. really they should be concerned about using interior materials that can take a beating and still clean up nice. this isnt a truck to win a beauty pageant and if domestic trucks wanna even be in this race they shouldnt waste to much time giving their exteriors a make over for anything other than practicality.

Is this a Dodgeota or a Fordota? Looks like the Japanese can't come up with something original to me. Like lets put some Toyota, some Dodge and some Ford in it.

Man, the rear end is especially repelling. I still haven't decided on the interior, but the entire exterior is not helping at all. Oh well, I guess they can't do everything right.

the reason they have rows of big knobs is be easy to turn like when farmers where gloves and what not. at least no one can complain about its size cause it looks freakin huge.

bigslick-

Yes, but the F-150 is at least inoffensive looking!

And I think the new Silverado and the F-150 have better interiors than this. The F-150 may have ugly fake wood in some of its variants, but the fake aluminum is nicer on it than on this!

This truck is quite bizarre-----The door handles should have been the same front and rear, the split dash looks like it could cause problems getting drinks in the cupholders and looks odd, and the headlights look too small for the grill. Maybe the loaded out models will look better.

I guest if you can't be original, duplicate.

Inside of that thing looks like some one was trying conceal the ingredients in the blender (F150 and Titan combo).
Hey! we may not find the rigeline too appealing, but atleast Honda was original in many aspects.
I'm not even sure what to make of this thing.

The exterior is a modern, stylish take on a pick-up truck. The basic design of the grill and less than 90 degree shapes is pure Toyota, and has been their truck loook for years, not copying anyone. The dashboard looks like it wraps the driver in a cockpit, a pleasant feeling in any vehicle.
To answer some specific criticisms...the rear door handles blend into the door, because that is the access cab, not the full 4 door double cab, which will have four full sized doors with regular door handles. In fact, Toyota, with its current Tundra, was the first to put regular door handles on its access cab, and people complained then that the look was misleading, so Toyota went the more traditional route. Just can't please people, I guess.
Second, the center consloe is huge to fit hanging files (for contractors) or a laptop. pretty smart desgning huh.

and have you seen the exterior of the new Chevy? It's hideous. And its dash, while light years from the current monstrosity, is still mid 90's design at best. I'll admit (although it pains me), the Ford is still the class of this field, but given Toyota's track record, that may even change.

1970toyotamarc,

If you can give me one good reason why an ultra-wide, flat dashboard, with some controls over an arms-length away, be 'wrapping the driver in a cockpit'?

What an idiotic statement.

I disagree because 'wrapping the driver in a cockpit' means all major controls are in close proximity to, and are angled toward, the driver.

The Tundra dashboard design shows no such attributes, such is it's sheer width and flat contour.

If Toyota were smart, they would have integrated the temperature and fan controls together, with an exterior dial and interior switch within one unit, if that makes sense. Thus they could reduce the ventilation controls to two, cutting the switch distance from the driver.

The dash layout, as it stands, is in no way bad, but to call it a cockpit which wraps around the driver is plain wrong.

Will,

Replace 'smart' with innovative, creative, different.

Don't look so confused, even though I know why. You couldn't possibly fathom how perfect little Toyota could do anything wrong, ever.

Well they didn't really do anything wrong in this instance, but yet they didn't do anything worth noting. But that's how you like it Will, nothing to mention, but nothing to criticize.

At least the exterior is ugly enough to be interesting.

Will - The interior is better than the Ford AND GM? I'll give you GM, but no way on the Ford. The interior of this truck isn't clean or laid out nicely. 50/50 split interior and what in the heck is with the NAV screen almost to the passenger. That's going to be a nice strech to get a shot at the screen from the drivers seat.

I am not impressed and it won't do anything to Ford and probably GM, though I would MAYBE take this over the the Chevy.

The exterior is really busy, I think they would have done better to keep the exterior simple. I liked the older Tacomas, but it seems that lately Toyota has been guilty of overstyling their trucks. I think I'll be getting a new Silverado when the dual-mode hybrid comes out...

Even though opinions are like a**holes, at least 98 % of us agree that we do not like this vehicle. Maybe current Tundra owners will enjoy this 'pseudo-refresh', but doesn't look like they will be taking any business from the other top two ....
HYUNDAI??? KIA??? Maybe its about time you guys took a shot a building a truck ..(smile) I'm sure they can come up with something that gets 38 mpg and is under 25K

Hey they forgot to finish painting the dash.. oh wait they meant to do that.. looks like they over loaded it to.. bed looks bent down .. oh wait thats the styling.. I can see Chevy, Dodge, Ford and Toyota in this truck.. Guess they think the good from each makes a good truck. I have an F150 and I am not a Ford fan. I like the new Chevy and GM pulled it off with a decent looking interior (pictures anyways)Nissan is decent looking and I like it. This thing might make it if companys get a great deal on it.. but wait no 3/4 or 1 tons.. well looks like strike 3 for Toyota full size trucks..

Forgot to comment on the reg cab doors. These things look like parking lot nightmares. Huge. Either that or the truck is small and it makes the doors look huge. ANd whats up the the styling of the tail lights. Looks like they didn't want to copy any one else.. well they did a good job of not coping anyone else.. maybe they should have.
