Tundra Gets Another Black Eye, CrewMax Four Stars From NHTSA
Toyota swung for the fences when they unveiled the Toyota Tundra in Detroit, with an optional 381 HP V8, 10,500 pound tow rating, and huge proportions. The problem is, ever since the vehicle hit dealer lots, it seems as though one piece of bad news is hitting the pickup after another. First came rebates on the brand new Tundra, which is almost unheard of for any Toyota out of the blocks. Almost immediately after that, we told you about the four star NHTSA crash test rating of both the Regular and Double Cab Tundra. Next the folks from Aichi Japan got a bit of a reprieve when the IIHS gave the Tundra a "Good" rating, which lent some credence to Toyota's claim that the Tundra should have scored better on the NHTSA test.
Now NHTSA is giving the Tundra another four star black eye, this time on the popular CrewMax model.

Toyota and the Keiretsu business structure are all about profit. This is why safety is not a priority for Toyota. Where ever they can cut corners to increase their profits they'll do it. This is part of their business culture.

It was just a thought. People get so easily offended here. They just had a huge recall on the last tundras not too long ago, now the new tundra doesnt live up to expectations. The problem is we all expect toyota to be perfect. Maybe I should lower my expectations so that I wont be debooseted by people like you.

Safety is largely a function of the driver's mentality. Idiots will crash their vehicles and the human race will evolve toward more safety consciousness. The most important things in a truck, or any vehicle for that matter, are comfort, performance, reliability, and durability (not necessarily in that order).

Here is an idea.. don't drive like a fricking retard. If you are worried about being killed in an accident because you slam into a wall or rear end someone maybe you shouldn't be driving.
Naturally you can't do anything about the guy headed straight for your vehicle, but we can hope he's in a miata and the tundra will pull a big foot and just roll over the top of it.
Seriously accidents take place because two vehicles try to occupy the same space. If you're paying attention most of them can be avoided.
(for the people who are going to reply to this please don't.. I know there are a million possibilities of 'well there was no way to avoid this accident' etc.)
Also, if you drive drunk you deserve to be put in a pinto going 80mph headed for a brick wall.

NHTSA test is outdated. I think Tundra 4 stars because its frame is too strong for the NHTSA low speed test.
As evidence, it got "Great" at the tougher IIHS off-set front crash test, similar to Euro NCAP.

Half of NHTSA's executives come from the Big 3 (now 2). Read this CAREFULLY: THe Big 3 have been unable to field even ONE, repeat ONE car in the last 10 years, that could approach any of Toyota's model lineup. SO a rap against Toyota's cars versus GM and Ford's cars would only show up the utter banality (read irrelevance) of their testing standards. WIth the TUndra, the Big-3 finally see their LAST bastion falling down. Hence the pressure on the NHTSA to knock the TUndra for safety, since on the 4 major things that sell trucks- Power, Payload, Reliability and fuel economy, the Big 3's trucks are unable to touch the Tundra.
Does anybody here really think the NHTSA is actually objective in its testing?

So a government agency once again gives a low score to the Tundra, while the independent, and more rigorous IIHS gives it a good rating. hmmmmm....whats up with that? How afraid must the Big 2 be that they keep pulling this?
Meanwhile, I dont recall reading on Autospies about the IIHS tests, and had to look them up elsewhere. Were those posted? Or do we only get Tundra information that is negative? I coulda missed it, I'm just sayin.....

I used to hate this truck! It is growing on me although, The crash tests are unimpressive for a new truck! NHSTS isn't just hot air! They have numbers to back them up! Toyota should start by fixing the wimpy frame and re start with a fully boxed frame. Then Toyota should make a real truck in 3/4 ton and one ton with a diesel engine to compete with the big three. To improve the half ton it should also loose some weight! The suspension it presently has belongs on a car! The 1/2 ton should be more of an off road capable toy with tripple the wheel travel it presently has now! It should be made to compete in the Baja in stock form without turning a wrench! I am dreaming again! Toyota is not alone, they all lack here unfortunatly! If you consider your self a truck guy and think it is perfect do your self a favour and buy a car because they handle better with better fuel mielage and most importantly you obiously don't need a truck!

The frame on the new Tundra utiltizes three different shapes or configuartions in different areas of the frame for maximum stability and reliability.. read up on it! :)

fusion- yes I did read up on it and all I got on it is a lot of BS as to why they cheaped out and came out with an inferior frame. Toyota says we need frame flex? I am a firm believer that is what the suspension is for. Then again this truck doesn't have much suspension. If this frame was so great the class 8 baja race trucks would have them.

Bingo!!! The suspension should be the only part of the entire system that should flex. It's obviously more expensive to make the frame out of hydraformed/extruded fully boxed tubing than to simply use a C-Channel.
