U.S. Nissan dealers waiting on GT-R horsepower rating - may offer 480hp
One major selling point still remains unclear for Nissan dealers that are prepared to sell the GT-R: the certified horsepower rating. So far all the specs stated on the GT-R are based on the Japanese market version. The GT-R is rated in at 480 PS in Japan, which converts to 473 horsepower U.S.
However, Nissan wants to offer 480 horsepower as a selling point. A Nissan engineer told...

I do find it funny that you find the 911 "a work of art lololollol" when its just simply been ugly this whole time. You cant argue the driving dynamics and performance of it(and sometimes because you have too much money), but you dont buy it for the beauty...
Same goes for the GTR, but the GTR has style.

Well of course those who want a turbo 911 will end up getting the turbo 911.
And guess what...people wanting the GT-R... will get the GT-R!
Maybe, just maybe, there are people out there who buy cars not based on price or the perception some ignorant geeks on a message board may have.
Turbo 911 = cool
GT-R = cool
Talking crap about either = moronic
Tip for autospies posters: if EL34 is agreeing with you, you are likely wrong.

First off Nissan was true to it's past design using the legendary Skyline GTR as a basis of which I believe this would be it's 3rd generation in this series. You can see it's design queues everywhere you look. I agree that it is not the most beautiful design nor were past GTR's. But, to say that the Porsche is beautiful is also an overstatement. Both cars are well engineered pieces and to be honest that is still what counts to most enthusiasts.

"But, to say that the Porsche is beautiful is also an overstatement."
I disagree... the 911 is simply a pure, beautiful form that is fortunately still gracing our roads.
The GT-R is polarizing, mean and very cool. But the Porsche is beautiful. There is quite a difference there.
Otherwise, +1.

all you people who trash the gt-r every time a new story comes up are just idiots. you don't like it. OKAY WE GET IT. sure the 911 turbo is probably a better car in all aspects but give the gt-r its due as well. this car is a beast. and contrary to what you may think, a lot of people religiously follow this car and other versions such as the r34 and r33.
and dont get it twisted...i still think the 911 turbo is the undisputed champ but im not going to listen to some idiots bashing a car that will burn most cars it sees on the road

"There are a couple of cars that carry 6 lbs per hp, and that claim to be able to do 0-60 in 3.5 s, and they are no doubt using every trick in the book to achieve those times, and are probably exaggerating on top of that. The very few cars that are actually able to pull that off, typically carry less than 5 lbs per hp. Nissan claims that a car that carries 8 lbs per hp, will be able to do 0-60 in 3.5 s, and this is simply poppycock."

the Ford GT is one of the most gorgeous cars to ever roll off of a production line. my opinion, of course, but to write off all American cars as ugly is a serious blow to your credibility. I know you probably dont care from viewing your posts, Kraut, but you should probably keep it in mind if you want anyone to take you seriously.

The GT looks better than "ok." I have a friend who collects, and yes he has a GT, and he has given me quite a few rides. It's an incredible car. One of the best experiences I've ever had in any automobile.
But what does it have to do with anything?

I think that the difference between a 473 HP and 480 HP is significant. When you reach 480HP, you are looking at the same "range" of HP as a F430's 483 HP, but when you are looking at 473 HP, it doesn't seem as close to 500 HP, as it does to 450 HP, for obvious reasons. I think its all perception, and Nissan should market 480HP.
As for this against the Turbo, it silly to compare the two. Buyers will not likely cross shop the two.

Question: Does the current Audi grill pre-date the GT-R concept of 2001?

No.
http://www.autointell.com/european_companies/volkswagen/audi-ag/audi-concepts/audi-nuvolari-03/audi-nuvolari-front-350-214.jpg
That's the 2003 Nuvolari Concept.
Anyway, I don't think the grilles look much alike. The only thing about the GT-R's that makes it look like an Audi grille is how the trim behind the license plate is painted black. That is not what Audi does, which is putting a chrome ring around the entire grille and designing it as one unit.

Like a few have already mentioned, I doubt buyers will be cross-shopping the two. I think Nissan's aim is to expand the market for affordable supercars (which was mentioned in some article somewhere) and the comparison with the 911 Turbo is a good selling point for them.
As for the looks, I was admittedly aghast when I first saw it but have grown to really like it. It's defintely not beautiful in the way Ferraris and Astons are. While those cars are "feminine", the GT-R is more "masculine". It's more machine-like and industrial which gives it that aggressive and purposeful demeanor. And I'd have to say the 911 (which looks d@mn good) also belongs in this aesthetic camp.
(Just like to say there is nothing wrong with Ferraris and Astons. I happen to consider the Vantage and the 599 GTB the 2 most beautiful cars currently in production.)

Agreed. I think that everyone will agree that looks/designs are subjective. But as long as the form follows function, then theres nothing wrong with it.

So the notion put on forth here is that styling is subjective. Then why the hell are all these morons discussing looks. No one knows how the GT-R performs. So lets just keep it professional and play guessing games as to what the numbers are. At this point, no one should be saying anything about performance. There's no real performance review, duh, because it hasn't been released yet.

The Altima coupe is a yawn-inducing exercise in bland automotive design. The sedan is exponentially sexier, for reasons that are beyond my comprehension.
The GT-R... isn't.

I'm sick of comparing the GT-R to the 911 Turbo. Here are the analyses of each:
GT-R -
Pros: amazing performance, stunning style, show-car curb appeal, everyday drivability, low price
Cons: cheap interior (not as nice as the Altima's?), coffee can exhausts not for everyone, the ever-present "What is it???"
911 Turbo -
Pros: effortless, laugh-inducing speed; razor-sharp handling, sinuous style, gorgeous interior, bargain compared to supercars
Cons: almost too subtle, useless rear seat, not a bargain next to the GT-R
I would buy the 911 Turbo, if only because I prefer its looks and build inside/out, but the GT-R commands respect.

No doubt this car is incredible, but how on earth does it manage to get to 60 in 3.5 seconds? The Turbo does so in around 3.4-3.3 but weighs 400lbs less and has more torque. The R8 weighs 400lbs less as well with only 60 less hp and AWD yet can't break 4 seconds.

DSG.
And yes, the R8 has gotten a 3.9 sec time.
This car weighs 3900lbs? Really?
The 911 Turbo will get a 20 horsepower boost next year, as well as the inclusion of DSG, so it should be about a half second faster, which will be scary to use on normal roads.
