UK Police Take Delivery Of First IS-F Pursuit Model

Usually when you hear of European police taking delivery of a high-performance one-off vehicle, you think of a Lamborghini, Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz or a BMW.

Well, the Japanese are now throwing their two-cents into high-performance patrol cars with the new IS-FORCE, based on the 416-hp IS-F.

The Lexus IS-FORCE has been delivered to Humberside Police in the UK. The IS-FORCE, which features £30,000 ($49,504 USD) worth of on-board computers and communications equipment, will replace the current Subarus in assisting the Roads Crime Section to target organized criminals in the area.

I think they're very lucky. Europeans get their Jags, Bimmers, Mercs, and Lexuses. ...and their Volvos, which they're not allowed to crash.

I just can't wait for that new cop car to come out for the Americans. That... really cool looking thing with suicide doors and awesome bumpers. :P I don't remember its name.

Excellent choice, the UK police will be in good hands, they can rest assure all the electronics, gimzmos and gadgets will work flawlessly and reliably with the awesome power and poise of the IS-F, this is Lexus afterall. They won't have to deal with the electronic gremlins and quirks of German made cars.

How exactly do you know why they purchased it? It is a governmental agency... it was most likely purchased because they were the lowest bidder.

And why aren't Lexus used as taxis? Because their maintenance costs are going to be sky high. Gas guzzlers make poor taxis. Fact.

Besides, there is no shame in building good cars that are then used as taxis. It actually says something about the product.

the IS-F has a higher top speed than the M3. and acceleration is virtually the same. magic feel will not help you run away:-)

I hope the UK police have a different vehicle to haul away offenders in. Being an IS owner I can attest to the 'vestigial' rear seating area. Fine for my small kids and small adults, but a cuffed bad guy would be no fun to try and wedge in there. Particularly if they have a 'hardened' separation between the front and rear seats.

They also use Volvos and BMWs professor.

Wonder why they start off by mentioning BMW, Ferrari etc but the IS-F replaces none of them (maybe they weren't up to the task). It replaces the Subaru (I would guess WRX or STi) pursuit cars.
Personally, I'd imagine having AWD as being more of an asset in high pursuit and handling, but that's just me.

Gives Lexus more publicity.

If they only bought one car I bet it would be for just a show car, or used when kids come to see the police cars and fire trucks on certain days, I geuss it would be cool for the kids. But not a pratical cop car.

And this is good for Lexus? Really? I find that people are turned off from buying a car that is also a cop car. Happened with Crown Vic, Chargers, etc. I for one wouldn't buy a car that can be labeled a cop car, nothing against cops tho. Just don't want to be mistaken for one.

Why wouldn't you want a white or black Crown Vic? Makes getting around easier because everybody slows down and gets out of your way.
Not to mention the Vic has a double 5star crash rating and chassis designed for ramming.
