UPDATED: At Twenty-Eight Grand, Will VW Obsolete Its Own Car With The Passat CC Coupe?
Agent 001 is in HOTLanta preparing to drive the new 2009 VW Passat CC Coupe for the first time.
001 and the rest of the automotive press will be road trippin' to Nashville tomorrow, testing out this sexy new VW.
At $28k, the CC is an excellent value and the Spies think it could convert a lot of regular Passat customers as well as some Accord, Camry and Acura customers.
Does the new CC have the looks and the goods to present a serious challenge in this segment?
Tell us your thoughts...
We have some early photos from the gallery of the car and the HOT sights here in Atlanta in our photo gallery.

Keep checking the gallery over the next few days as we add more photos of the CC Coupe...
And a special shout out from 001 to John Abraham of the Atlanta Falcons, his crew and model Zayna for the great hospitality!

The regular Passat will be replaced by a made for US mid size sedan once the VW factory is built in Tennessee.

I still can't figure out how I feel about the design of this car. Most of the time I like the certain angles, but sometimes it looks a little funky.

I totally agree...look at the 4th pic down. Some angles are nice, but some can make you squint. I wonder if this styling creates a "coffin" for those in the backseat?

i was thinking the same in some pics it looks really good, like the last pic, but than in others it looks odd and ackwardly shaped, so I cant really draw an opinion about it I guess until I see it in person....the CLS has the same effect on me in person its not bad, but in pictures sometimes it just looks plain odd

Absolutely gorgeous car. It is unbelievable to see this car priced the same as econoboxes like the V6 Accord, Camry or Altima. How do the Germans do it? How can they manage to offer this level of quality, and price it the same as Japanese price their tin cans?
I guess is just another lesson in car engineering from the Germans.
BRAVO VW!!!

Honda's have very low if not the lowest cost of ownership in most of their classes. So although they are expensive to repair, repairs or moreso rare compared to other makes

It is Atlantic Station, was just there over Labor Day weekend. I am from Atlanta and most of my family is still in the city there. Cool little area...trendy, lots of condos and sky rise living right there with shops, a theater, and restaurants. Oh and don't forget the huge IKEA....LOL!

it looks like VW and Audi are using the same suspension set up. The gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the fender is just as huge as the new 09 A4. They really need to lower both of those products. It will give it a much more aggressive look. Other then that critique I would by one in a second and just get a set of H&R springs installed.

Remember people, BASE PRICE. V-Dubs of late have had alot of pricey options to keep main costs down.
I love what this car represents, that cheap cars don't need to be ugly.

It will still give you pleather seats, the great 2.0T engine and standard goodies. I don't see why you would need much more than a premium package which should keep at at about $30K.

This car is extremely impressive. There is room for this as well as the Passat in the VW lineup. Mercedes sells both the E-class and CLS-class which have the same relationship to one another as the Passat and CC (note: it's not called the Passat CC, it's just called the CC).

OMG. Great Value.
I was very excited when I saw this vehicle at the Detroit Autoshow back in January. I drive 5 hours every yaer to see this show. The Passat made the most sense at the show, and seemed like a lot of car. I really thought this car was going to start at $40k USD and quickly climb with optons, which seems to be the trend with Euro manufactures. I really thought the falling US dollar would doom this car and that it would be unaffordable for most. Looks like I was wrong. I loved the car reguardless of the price.
I didn't see a ton of people flocked around this car, but it was my absolute favorite of the show, and worth the trip for me.
It seemed like the Hyndia Genisis was the talk of the Detroit show, but it stood by itself, with far less people around the Genisis as opposed to the Passat. The Genesis did nothing for me. It looked like yet another econobox and definately a miser's car. I spent only a few seconds at the Genisis and spent over an hour at the VW display returning many times.
The Marketing of the VW display and the Passat inspired deep passion. It reminded me of the Mecedes display at the Detroit Show in 2000. Very cutting edge.
I think VW has come a long way, and they have nice quality and styling. The BMWs were pricy and VW seemed to be far more sensible, yet still cutting edge. I think most people overlook VW because they were very pricy for many years.

I was planning to perhaps buy a new Ford Edge, but at 28K I'd much rather have the Passat.
Now if only I could get the Passat with a stick and a Diesel powerplant. New York State still has that crazy ban on Diesel cars, Dealer aren't allowed to sell them, people aren't allowed to register them.

The most memorable car I sat in at all the Detroit Auto Shows was the VW Phaeton. the Dashboard and Seats were simply perfect. This was several years ago, but still fresh in my mind as a car I'd like to own.

Does anyone know if there will be a Passat Wagon?
Volvo's new XC60 Wagon seem nice from the pics, but I haven't actually seen one up close yet.
A Passat Wagon Diesel might be nice to copare ith Volvo.
I think VW should do a Marketing Campain: "Your Choice, Wagon or Sedan $28,000.
This is the commercial that saved Ford in 1986:
"Ford Taurus, your choice Wagon or Sedan $13,000" which was a great value for a mid size car during the 80s. The reason why Ford sold a ton of them.
The simple pricing made it easy for shoppers to understand what they could expect to pay even if their needs were different.

Agreed. The front and the side (from the front quarter view) looks really sleek - very expensive looking as well. For me, there's something strange about how the rear (esp. the rear taillights) is proportioned. But, still a very unique car in this segment.
I'm assuming the CC starts at 28k for the 2.0T version?
