Ultra futuristic Lexus Nuaero concept
Swedish automotive design graduate Jon Rådbrink presented a concept for a catamaran-shaped car at the Royal College of Art graduation show in London last month. Called the Lexus Nuaero, it features motors in the wheels and a touch-screen dashboard where the information and controls can be moved around. The driving system is controlled solely by hand without the use of foot pedals; to break, the driver pushes the steering wheel away from their body.

Rådbrink, a graduate from the RCA’s Vehicle Design course, won the Pilkington Award for Best Use of Glazing for his design.

Interesting...

Very 'forward thinking', yet it still exudes a degree of luxury that's relevant today, all while being shockingly light weight/efficient.

Fancy concept but not practical in real life -- the side lower sections are far too low to the ground to avoid serious damage on our deteriorating roads.

In a few years cars will look like this because Lexus is the trendsetter in car design? PLEASE!

Michael, you're a troll. Just shut up and go join another site to rant on about how you would love to kiss the asses of Toyota's executives.

There's nothing revolutionary about your Camry. It will always be just a Camry. Get over it. It's no Lexus either.

Not from Lexus Michael Taylor, from a design student in Sweden that went to the Royal Academy of Art in London, this was one of his projects. It is a students vision of Lexus, not a design from Lexus....

any piece of shit that has a half toyota symbol on the hood is beautiful. right MT?

You should be banned by Lexus for thinking that was their design!

You don't even do any research before you open your trap!

Well Homer, as near as I can tell there are manifold reasons.

First, pedestrian safety laws interfere with the frontal configuration of cars.

Second, there are some aesthetic reasons. The most aerodynamic shape in terms of the coefficient of drag is a tear shape. This shouldn't surprise anyone if they think about it; when rain falls through the atmosphere because it is a fluid, it acquires a shape that minimizes the drag forces. Now, the theoretical minimum coefficient of drag (Cd=0.15) shape is not a symmetrical tear the reasons for which have to do with ground effects, but it is still described in the literature as tear-shaped.

Third, this is just my speculation, but there are packaging problems with the shape- fitting everything it that shape is a little problematic.

I tried to find the illustration online, but to no avail. However, the prius concept, hybid X, or whatever it was that they called it is similar in profile to the theoretical minimum Cd shape.

Well since nobody else said it I will, the reason that some vehicles are brick shaped is that they need to be. Also aerodynamics plays a VERY unimportant role in city driving. At higher speeds, think highway speeds, it does become more of a factor but not around the city.

And Homer, most of the energy loss from burnt fuel is due to thermal losses not the mechanical forces of aerodynamics.

It's actually an interesting solution to the aerodynamic "problem" of wheels. I expect that once drive axles are irrelevant at least some elements of this will be used on real cars.

What is up with lexus and 'could have been' concepts? LFA? the vehicle in minority report? meanwhile, audi had the concept in I.Robot or something like that. that concept ended up being the R8.

Stop watching Minority Report, Lexus. Youre updating a movie car that looks nothing like a Lexus.
