Undisguised Q5 in Autobild!!!
First images surface

Real or fake, it is never really clear until the official press releases come through the usual channels. Leaks on the other hand are becoming more common by the auto show so it stands to reason that this may just be the real deal. Points for authenticity are given due to the amount of shots (including interior), but the rear looks like it could have been computer edited.

On cartribe.co.uk the first five images of the new Audi Q5 surfaced today, photographed from the upcoming Auto Bild issue. At least, that is what the source says but in none of the images can we spot a date or issue number from the magazine. The only thing we can confirm is that the article is in German.

Either way, the front and side look as expected but the rear displays some new styling. Out with the curvy and in with rectangle-ish taillights, the rear light cluster resembles nothing Audi has ever done before. On a production vehicle that is, the Audi Cross Cabriolet Concept, which debuted at the LA Auto Show, features a similar tail light cluster. On a side note, the Q5 was initially scheduled to make it world premiere at the LA Auto Show, but has been pushed to Geneva instead...

Not quite as handsome as I had anticipated, but nice nonetheless...

Additionally: From this angle, I see shades of Hyundai Veracruz

Easily the best looker in this class, IMO.

Well done!

Im not quite certain but is the EX in its class? If so, I'm not with you on this one.

from behind it's very Acura looking, but that's not unexpected considering how much the Q7 and MDX look alike from the rear. I don't like the dash, either. What does this compete with again? It's definitely not the EX, which is even smaller than an X3. Isn't this like an ML competitor?

By the way, about the EX, how are those selling? Does anyone know? I sat in one in Detroit and spent about 15 minutes going over the car in complete awe that a manjor manufacturer actually released it to the public. What a completely useless vehicle. There is ZERO leg or headroom in the backseat -- with a normal size person driving the back of the front seat is literally almost touching the front of the back seat, and you have to be a contortionist to get in and out regardless. At 5'11" I'm not exactly a giant and there was no way I could sit behind myself unless I sat Indian-style. There's also very little luggage capacity. I'd read about space limitations before I saw it so I wasn't expecting anything cavernous, but I was not prepared for how small it was. It was ridiculous. Anyway, I hope Audi, BMW, Mercedes, et al don't try coming out with something like it. The technology is good, the vehicle is useless.

Im about 5'11 also and I sat in the front and backseat of the EX and it was not that bad. The trunk room was poor but I rarely have anything in my trunk. maybe the seats were pulled all the way back when you were in it. Mine were adjusted for driving. Not stationary.

That looks exactly like the small Q7. and just like Q7 looks fat, round and ugly.

Should have been more stylish, sleek and sexy like EX35.

GTR35, I'm not sure how one defines class of vehicle these days but my wife wants a small SUV so the Q5, Tiguan, EX-35, GLK and coming Toyota Venza are all under consideration. I thought I had the problem solved with the long-anticipated 2008 Saturn VUE but the VUE turned out to be a disappointment because it lacks front passenger seat height adjustment causing me to bang my head on the roof getting into it. The VUE also has short seat cushions and el-cheapo interior plastic. I don't know if GM ever took disciplinary action against those responsible for this fiasco.

The upcoming Chevy Traverse that I viewed in Chicago was actually quite nice. The Buick Enclave is also truly impressive. On the cheaper side, the Mazda CX-7 isn't too bad. You don't have to go German to get a good wagon these days. But, as with anything, pay more, get more.

I haven't actually driven the Q7 yet, but Audi has been producing some amazing hardware these last few years, so I'd definitely recommend test driving the Q7 or upcoming Q5 if you are in the market for a $40k+ vehicle.

...Oh, apologies to the fanboys that I didn't mention how superior BMW, Lexus, and Mercedes is to everything on the road. Next time I'll remember to add this little disclaimer to keep their egos well-inflated. They make some good stuff too.

Wow, there are A LOT of Audi haters on this site.

Can we get rid of the boost feature? All it does is annoy people.

I certainly don't believe that, "there are A LOT of Audi haters on this site"...

I'm thinking that there were just a few individuals who didn't agree with your post, nothing more.

I like it if the price is right. Not a fan of the interior but the vehicle is nice looking nevertheless. Its def more masculine looking than its competitors. Its a tad bit plain and simple which I didnt get from the concept rendering. But I still like it.

I see lens distortion from a wide angle lens.

I can't wait to see some good quality photos, because I like what I see ;-)

I am excited to see the Volvo XC60, if it looks anything like the concept, i think looks wise it will blow away anything in its class.

It's still a photoshop, people.

Look at the rear lights on the bumper -you can see they have just been 'pasted' on.

That and the whole car seems skewed, the numper plate looks like its at a different angle to the boot...

Those tail lights does not do anything for the design! Ones like those on the A6 Avant would have been way better!

Overall it isn't quite the looker I had expected, but then again, when you compare it to the competition (X3 and GLK), I guess it is the best of the bunch... But hey, what do I know? The only SUV i like is the Range Rover Sport... And maybe the X5...

I assume your message to stylists is "make sure your design does not look photoshopped".

I really love this style of design on a car. Its best described as a sheetmetal becoming a work of art. As in this Audi..beautiful gentle curves and straight confident lines dominating the side profile with clean and modern looks. I love the red colored brake light cover with jet black paint on a vehicle and darkly tinted windshield to go with.

One of my main complaint about bmw design is their overdone and trying too hard to be different from the rest which makes fans vomit..in Audi's case..its just opposite....with contemporary, modern and clean designs..a damn good job for Audi.

Isn't this a restyled Tiguan. Audi should avoid this re-badging if Audi wants to be taken seriously.

No. The Tiguan is on the Rabbit/A3 platform. This is on the A4 platform.

I still don't understand where the Q5 fits. If it has a 2.0 engine it can't be an ML size, if it has a V8 it can't be X3 rival...and if it's based on the A4 it should be X3 rival, yet somehow compact based SUVs rival small luxury based SUVs...like Tiguan and the X3.
Is this some bizarre in between car? Larger than X3, smaller than X5...an ML rival...

If it is based on the A4 what engines are they going to put in? Audis engine choices in the US are a joke. Bmw and Mercedes engines smoke Audi choices in the US.
