Untapped Market? Jeep Four Door Wrangler Sales Exploding
The Chrysler group's Toledo Supplier Park is cranking out 600 vehicles per day. Of those, 82 percent are four-door Unlimited's and 18 percent are two-door units.

Earlier Chrysler reported the mix was about 60 percent four-door and 40 percent two-door. The four-door Wrangler is available in hard- and soft-top versions.

"Demand for the hardtop four-door is much higher than we expected," said Cynthia Sidoti, Toledo Supplier Park plant manager.

The 2007 four-door Wrangler began arriving in dealerships last September.

A Hemi would be a bit excessive for the lightweight Wrangler, wouldn't it?

The best engine for the Wrangler would be a strong in-line 6 diesel, perhaps one based on the old iron block that Chrysler foolishly abandoned instead of developing a DOHC head for it. I'd like to see the height of the Wrangler reduced by an inch or two. We bought one for our daughter about 10 years ago and my wife claims it is virtually impossible to get into it without getting your legs dirty in winter slush that build up below the doors. The Wrangler is built solid as a bridge. BTW, those big mud tires on the Wrangler are good for at least 100,000 miles.

A good idea for your next project would be to design a dune buggy based on the real Hummer, the H1. I'm serious, it would be huge but the mother of all dune buggies. The advantages of the H1 are a superior drive train, aluminum body, and the huge Duramax diesel. You can leave out the geared hubs as far as I am concerned as they are a potential maintenance headache.
