A mid-engine 2+2? Just like the Ferrari Mondial I suppose.

If they are gonna used a Toyota derived engine, use the 5.0 liter V8 from the IS-F. It at least will match the ballsy name of "Eagle". It's funny how companies will hire Lotus to develop their engines (GM), but lotus will source a engine from another company. Their TT small displacement engine was gem, but underpowered.

Lotus doesn't have the resources or funding to develop its own engine, one that will meet both European and American emissions laws -doing so is VERY costly.

Secondly, a V8 would not be a good idea, because:

a) The Eagle is not their flagship car
b) The engine is too big (The Eagle is smaller than the Esprit)
c) Lotus is smart, they use whatever configuration best suits the cars size, demeanor, market and handling characteristics.

That's why Lotus's engineering consultancy works for so many top car manufacturers. They know what they are doing.
