V8 Mercedes C-Class with 6-speed manual transmission coming?
I found this scan on a German language car forum (I read and speak the language) and I couldn't believe me eyes.
According to this scan, Mercedes is planning two V8 C-Class models using the 4.7 V8 found in the GL450 and S450. There will be two power settings. I am guessing that the "weaker C450" (???) will have the standard 340-horsepower while the more "powerful CXXX"(???) will get a power boost? Perhaps something in the 400-horsepower range? Simply unbelieveable!
What's even more amazing is that apparently they're developing a new 6-speed manual transmission capable of handling the torque that will be offered in these two V8 C-Classes and also in the C350 and AMG C63. I am guessing the new C350 lacks a manual transmission option for exactly this purpose: the transmission wasn't ready.
Amazing news! This segment just heated up big time!

So there will be a total of 3 V8 C-Classes?
Why?

Interesting.
What I find hard to believe is the fact that this totally goes against Mercedes principles in regards to the transmissions. Big engines with power were always equipped with automatic transmissions (once available).
On the other hand, the C class is the perfect Mercedes to be equipped with a manual transmission because it has a sportier image than the E class. Also, they need a manual transmission in this class.
I own a C230 V6 with the 6 speed manual and as much as I love the car, the transmission isn't the best. The fact that Bill stated that this is a new transmission raises my hopes. I'd love the idea of a V8 C class with a manual.
I do agree that two V8 C's might be too much. I think a simple C450 would do quite well. Who knows though, this little memo could be wrong?
If this is true, however, and it looks to be because of the scan, then this segment has indeed just been heated up.

speculation...what source is this from? just some german mag scan? i highly doubt the validity of the MT. There might be a V8 C-class, but it will be an AMG, not a C450. this sounds like its way out of left field and we should wait to hear from MB.

My German is ok at best and I probably have missed it. Where did it say two power settings? All I see are two V8 engines C63 and C450.

I don't speak German, but Bill does. He translated the article and I guess we have to wait for him to come online and tell us.
All I see in the article is 340 PS and 460 NM. What's NM?

yay someone asked for me.
What cawimmer said.
C and E, only the smaller engines in the E though. I think you can get a manual C350. Manual CLk 200K and 220cdi, and manual SLK 200k, 280 and 350.

i figured there would be more manuals than that. i know the 7 series used to be available in the states with a stick; granted thats bmw. and the first year or two audi a8 had a stick in the fwd models (yes, apparently there were fwd a8's in america).
i know all but amg c-class have stick option in states, FINALLY. and am suprised it's not even an option in lower level clk's. steel wheels as an option but no stickshift???

is it all the same transmission? i bet if they built one for v8 engines they would sell. not in numbers like bmw, but it may open things up for a different demographic.

The E 280 and CLK 280 have a manual? Not in england...also the CLK320cdi is an auto in england too, as are the C350 and 320cdi.
It's different for so many countries, audi has never offered a manual A8 here.

Mr. Cawimmer,
I found this at www.focus.de, Automobil. The funny thing is the thread is gone. I can't find it anymore. Someone there had posted a link to this scan and I saved it and submitted it to Autospies.
If you want to try looking for it, the thread title was "Mercedes C-Klasse mit V8 und Schaltgetriebe" if I remember correctly.
