Yes, I drove both and it's no question from this point forward Agent 001 will always order PDK. Shifts faster and more precise than you and I can and it feels like you're shifting a real stick both in hand feel and gear engagement. BOOM, BOOM, BOOM, every time you hit it! ADDICTING! Plus you get better fuel economy and performance numbers.

Sorry guys, PDK just obsoleted the manual transmission on a sportscar.

It's THAT good.

It may be that the PDK is more perfectly matched with the turbo engine than the 6 speed. I had a '07 turbo and as you shifted, you would come off boost so you could always feel a little lag. The PDK probably shifts so fast that the boost stays up and you get that BOOM, BOOM, BOOM shift - maybe closer to a N/A engine. Guess I'll try PDK when I order the 2010.

Still debating the turbo vs R8V10. Any opinion Agent 001?

But for true mechanical involvement with a 997 Turbo, the 6-speeed manual remains the transmission of choice. After all, what real finesse is there in just flooring a car and slamming from gear to gear, automatically? Hell, a Camry can do that (sort of...)! Okay, maybe not... but the dance of feet, pedals, hands and levers is an art that is, sadly, disappearing.

Nissan GT-R offer the same or better performance for half the price, rendering this 911 completely obsolete. Interesting why you didn't come up with this point.

Oh, and the GT-R looks like a Japanese Samurai fighter, not like a Volkswagen Beetle. It also doesn't look EXACTLY THE SAME as the previous generation car.


And the Lexus LFA?

1. Does the 911 have full carbon fiber unibody (not just panels)?

No.


2. Does the 911 have a racing 9500rpm V10 which isn't turbo-soffocated for better aural experience?

No.


3. Does everyone rich banking industry manager that you've just bailed out with your hard earned taxpayer money (because you live in the world of corporatism) have the LFA?

No.


LFA is not really a product, rather a technology showcase. It proves all these lame marketing terms used to defend European old supercar brands like history, tradition, panache, pedigree (pal) and other nonsense is just cheap dog food. Lexus has none of these and they can do the supercar business just as others do.

This whole LF-A comparison thing is just silly. The LF-A is a technological wonder that demonstrates Toyota/Lexus' capabilities - it is the true definition of a halo car. Not surprising that Toyota could build such a car - there are alot smaller manufacturers making breathtakingly expensive ultrasupercars. None of us here will ever own one - think of it as a museum piece. What's so great about the 911 turbo is that it offers that level of performance, but at the same time it can be a docile everyday car when you want/need it to be.

Fully agree. I only responded to the another silly comparison issued by the theoptimisticpessimist.

Agree, but the 911 Turbo is still very expensive, considering its competitors like the Nissan GT-R and Chevrolet Corvette. And I also really don't like the fact it looks so much the same. Yes, I know they have to comply with traditional image of the 911, but there are numerous subtle styling options and tweaks on how to make the Carrera look more XXI Century.

To the general audience of Autospies:

I can never take anyone's argument or opinion seriouly if all you are capable of is equating price and performance...if you are a true car enthusiast...you must be able to look beyond that and appreciate the car for what it is, what it represents, and what it acheives. As far as I know...there is no single car out there that brings to the table the best of what everyone wants. I can't believe how many you are dedicated to taking the fun away from people who really can appreciate all types of cars.
