If we were judging from first impressions, it certainly appears that way.

General Motors made a debut this week even though it was relatively quiet. Wouldn't you expect a bigger splash for an element that could redefine the in-car infotainment experience?

I remember standing with 001 at the Cadillac XTS' big unveiling in Detroit. As we both peered into the vehicle, one thing that stood out to us was the gauge cluster. That's because it didn't look "normal" and had some really great animation in it.

After sauntering over to the CTS-V Coupe, which was proudly displayed on stage next to the XTS, I remember 001 asking one of Cadillac's top brass something along the lines of "So, when are you guys going to challenge Ford's SYNC?"

This prompted a memorable response: "THIS will be better."

Although we didn't know it at the time, it looks like this gentleman was referring to the CUE System. Though we weren't on hand to play around with it when it came out from hiding this week, it looks like it'll be armed with some nifty features:

- Fully customizable gauge layout
- Natural voice recognition
- Proximity sensing
- Haptic feedback

And it appears GM finally got the memo about a better looking head's up display -- it's about time!

One interesting thing to note: GM's personnel noted during demos this week that folks using iPhones and Droids don't want to relearn how to use devices, so, it implemented many of the same features these smartphones already have -- we're talking about how you interact with the large, centrally mounted screen.

To FULLY explore what the new Cadillac User Experience System is all about, I recommend you check out the two clips down below, particularly the second one.
