In the last story we painted the picture of an American dilemma. Essentially, it boiled down two critical points: Do YOU pick a sports car for its style and physical appearance, OR do you opt for the numbers which earn you bragging rights?

Now we'll carry on for the British dilemma.

This head-to-head, back-to-back test features the Jaguar XKR-S and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. The power gap is significant as the XKR-S has a significant advantage with 550 horsepower compared to the Aston's 420 ponies. The key is that they're similarly priced at 100,000 British Pounds Sterling.

While it seems like it's a pretty easy decision on paper, you have to watch the clip. Both vehicle's driving dynamics are on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum.

Having driven both, I can attest to Sutcliffe's claims.

The Jag feels a bit too loosey goosey and a bit too comfortable. It unquestionably has MUCH more power and its interior feels, frankly, cheap in comparison to the Aston's. BUT it would be easier to live with.

The Aston Martin oozes sex appeal with its trim exterior styling. It has the better driving dynamics that let you know you're in a sports car and in my opinion sounds perfect. It's a bit rougher on your backside and its steering requires some effort, but isn't that what you're looking for in a sports car? Yes, the Jaguar is MUCH faster.

So, what's it going to be? A vote for STYLE and driving dynamics OR a vote for POWER?

The Jaguar XKR-S and Aston Martin V8 Vantage. Two British bruisers. Both cost around £100k. Both have big V8s under the hood. But which is best? Steve Sutcliffe finds out.
