VIDEO: Look at what a REAL race car driver can do with the Lexus IS-F!
The Spies are proud to bring your some exciting in-car video of our recent trip to the Laguna Seca Raceway while testing the new 2008 Lexus IS-F! We were joined by professional IndyCar racer Scott Pruitt, giving some valuable insight on how to drive the course.

Check out our second in-car video, showing Agent008 running his own laps on the track. One thing is for certain, the IS-F has successfully bridged the gap between performance and luxury. The car's handling was very good during our track time, as the suspension and tires were certainly up to the challenge. Running in sport mode, there was no noticable body roll while cornering, and the car stayed planted firmly on the track for all but the most challenging sections. Coming to the top of the hill, just before the corkscrew turn, the rear end got ever so slightly light, while never actually coming loose. This part of the course combines cresting a hill under hard braking and downshifts, so given the fact that we were running 100% stock setups, it only seems fair that it wouldn't act like a true race car in that situation.

I take it Scott wasn't that impressed with the Lexus since most of the time he's talking about the track at Laguna Seca.
Must be a boring ride for a pro driver like Scott.

I would love to be in the passenger seat. Videos just can't match actually being there in the car. It looks like the car is going so slow, but then he says, "128, 129." I'm going to assume that he's talking about mph. I would love to experience that feeling.

I have to agree in that it actually looked like 008's track run was faster than that of Scott. Videos however, cannot convey the real experience.

Sorry 008 but Scott Pruitt was driving the car much faster than you. It was a blast seeing Scott driving the ISF.

Wasn't that annoying?
I think it's the self-parking trying to find a space to pull into!

Lexus buyers really need that feature since they have no idea how to drive.

Wow a sports saloon with a V8 and over-hyped transmission on a track.. Am I supposed to be amazed or so?
Watching an RS4 on a wet Nürburgring with Horst von Saurma behind the wheel, THAT is impressive.

I do admit the automatic is pretty fast at shifting but it looks like it has too many gears for its own good. The ratios are too short. This is a V8 with loads of torque, even 5 speeds would be enough. A lot of gears are good for high-revving engines like the C63 or the M3.

I think the C63 is much more of a torque-focused engine than a high-revving one... the RS4 fits that bill better.

The Merc is indeed an exception. But it all has to do with the tradition at AMG to equip their cars with automatics.
