I remember reading about his dad , Connie Kalita in some of the old Hot Rod magazines from the 60's .He also was a very sucessfull drag racer in the Don Garlits era . He was driving I belive , some of Ford's first V-8 DOHC engines in a front engine dragster and in the effort of saftey , the engine was moved in back of the driver in case of engine explosions What a tragedy for the family especially with his dad seeing his son's sucessfull drag racing career come to such a horrific ending. May God be with the family

Cars should be computer-controlled; nobody would know the difference.

He was a good man and his father a true gentleman. Both men promoted the sport in a positve manner and were very generous with charities.

Don't comment on things you don't understand. A man died you nitwit, doing something he loved.

NHRA is highly regulated. I can tell from experience that safety is always first in the NHRA, unfortunately all motorsports carry inherent risk.

Rest in peace Scott and my condolences to the Kalita Family.

Sad, but it also shows why you should not have a wall a the end of the track. Let it have a runoff area, or some type of energy absorbing material.

why do you think he was running the latest safety gear? i wouldn't take that for granted, although i hope he had it. from what i heard, the latest/greatest is not mandated yet, and this could spur even more focus on safety.
