I remember when the Boxster first made its debut.
The uninitiated and uninformed lambasted the Boxster for not being a "proper Porsche" or, essentially, a 911. What they didn't know is that the vehicle that is its spiritual father is the 550 Spyder, which is arguably one of the greatest vehicles to be born out of Porscheland.
The first-gen product was a 996 wannabe with the "broken egg" headlights and 996-lifted interior. Considering the 996 is the red-headed stepchild of 911s, that's not exactly a good thing. But now that the Boxster has been revised and inspired by the 991, it is really extraordinary.
But how's it size up to the first Boxster? Well, Autocar finds out.
The Porsche Boxster has been one of our favourite roadsters since the original car launched. But has time been kind to it? We pitch it against the Mk1 Boxster against the very latest model to find out.
