Cool. A power sliding second row and a power folding third row. This will be a winner. I think the current LX is a little shy on luxury, personally.

that power folding third row is a mess.
haven't you seen how everything folds flat in the GL?

'hot'? seriously?

look up 'pedestrian SUV' and there's a pic of this car.

commonsense:

and still the range rover outsells the more reliable and less expensive LX by 3 to 1. so clearly realiability is a secondary or tertiary consideration for most people buying this class of car.

furthermore, reliability is a nebulous term. all new cars start and go. some just have more little glitches than others. big deal. the differential in quality is far narrower than it was just 10 years ago.

Yearh... Just as hot as a 20 year old american V8! HOT HOT HOT!

huh? a suburban makes 380 lb ft of torque. does that make it hot? didn't think so.

oh, and lexus.com says it's 380 horsepower.

No matter if it has the 400hp you claim, it still does 0-60 in 8.5 seconds.

SupraNeverBackSupraNeverBack - 4/28/2007 8:37:41 PM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
The numbers are from Lexus.com. What make you think it will run as slow as 8.5s?

The same powertrain with 381hp/401lb.ft can make the 5,600lb Tundra run 0-60 around 6s. So the 0-60 time of LX570 with 400hp/420lb.ft should be around the ballpark of 6.0s, but this is the major point for this kind of vehicle.

WHAT?! 87, 91 gasoline?! No wonder you need so big engines with such a weak gasoline! The cheap stuff overhere is 92 and the normal is 95... And for the real connoisseur Shell sells 97 and a few places it is even possible to get 98 (esso sells 105, but you have to order that and it is as expensive as running on pure 50 year cognac)... And we have 95 with a 5% bio eth mix...

fanboy:

have you driven the GL? it handles amazingly like a car. tight, quick and solid. and the interior is extremely well designed and far bigger than the exterior even implies. plus it's not mistaken for a toyota.

Oh, wow!

Some of you need to realize that almost every argument on this site is opinionated.

Factor this: NONE of us have seen the LX570 in person, except maybe mitch. We have ALL seen the GL450 in person, except maybe EL34. When the GL first came out, I thought it was boring, like an oversized M-Class. But it's grown on me with each passing day- it is a hot SUV! The interior is great, the exterior is athletic and elegant, the handling beats all others in this class, and there's a diesel option. What's not to like?

"The next hot Lexus?"

The next Autospies heading engineered to get another 200+ comments?

Let's see, 001 knows that a large proportion of this site doesn't like the new LX570, as stated in the last 200+ comment thread about this car in which people were banned from the site!

So with all this information in mind, why must the question be asked AGAIN?

Because I still haven't seen a truly hot Lexus yet... And this definately isn't a hot Lexus either!

they're nice, but nobody lusts after them.
except some of the boys on here who will rub up against a 1990 ES250.

agree that it's 'nice.'
but people don't buy 'nice' SUVs for $80k.

that's why the last LX only managed to sell 6,000 units a years while the much more expensive range rover sold more than 3x that and the escalade sold over 50,000 units a year. this one won't come close to the volume of its competitors either.

The Range Rover is a VERY nice SUV. So there! In exchange for the reliability that you never cease to preach of, the RR is significantly better-looking, has better engines and the interior is second to none.

the LX has never sold as well as any of its key competitors.
but don't get so angry about it just because people who ACTUALLY BUY these cars disagree with you.

Can we not talk about another brand??? I sent in news about the upcoming Lincoln with some good spyshots....and it never got posted. Yet there are like 45 posts about the same LExus subjects, or BMW M-whatever subjects... How come as of late this site seems to be bent toward German/Japanese High end only?

and P.S., how exactly do you all choose who makes it and who doesn't? I try to be fair and give all brands some recognition when looking for stories.

If the thread you submit doesnt promise a good flamewar between the German 3 and Lexus, it won't get posted. This site is really not about auto news anymore...its kinda becoming the Lexus of auto sites, do what it takes to increase sales, forget about what it should be about, automotive passion. Maybe a little drastic observation but the site has really changed over the past several months..

Wow, markusck. Deep observation.

It hasn't been drastic over the last few months- it's been a gradual change, over the past several years. If you were here in 2004 or 2005 (or maybe 2003?), around the time when I started going here, you would remember how innovative and interesting this site was. The news came lightning-fast, the posters were good (they liked cars!), and the flame wars were spare and indulgent.

Nonsense, almost all the worthy auto news can be found on this site. The real problem is your beloved brand has no news for you and us.

don't worry about such silly things.

as long as toyota sells a 'hybrid' LS that gets 21 MPG and sells some more priuses they have a get out of jail free card.

they can sell hundreds of thousand of massive V8 tundras and a few of these and still be environmentalist.

hypocrisy at its best.

SupraNeverBackSupraNeverBack - 4/28/2007 2:16:56 PM
-2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Don't worry, LX570 still satisfies ULEV II, cleaner than Benz S600, and uses less gas, seats 8 and pulls your 8,000lb boat.

S4cabriofoxoneS4cabriofoxone - 4/28/2007 3:38:15 PMView My AgentSpace

The S600 has 510hp, seats five in peerless opulence (sometimes four), and goes from 0-60 in 4.5 seconds. Two can play at that game.

supra:

so you're trying to make an environmental case for a 5,500 SUV that sucks gas like crazy?

wow...you're really out of touch. nobody buying a big SUV has environmentalist concerns.

SupraNeverBackSupraNeverBack - 4/28/2007 8:31:09 PM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
No, that is not my point. My point is there are many dirtier cars like S600, M3, RS4 etc. to blame before this actually very clean LX570, which also happens to be a very capable utility vehicle.

SupraNeverBackSupraNeverBack - 4/28/2007 9:03:18 PM

Did I say LX570 is not a gas guzzler? But I believe 14mpg city/18mpg for LX570 seating 8 people is not anything worse than the cars I mentioned above.

Anyone else notice how the Mercedes ML headlights look extremely similar to the Kia Sorento's? That's because they both copied the last-generation RX. Anyone else notice how the GL's headlights have he exact same shape of the LS430s? Look at them closely...

I know it's irrelevant, but that jumped into my mind when people inevitably started posting about the GL.

A few facts. Watch the lexus boys deboost me.
This does not even compete with the LR3.

Cross-Linked Air suspension. First debut in the LR3 and now on all LR models.
Adaptive throttle crawl mode. Again, first debut in the LR3 as rock mode in the terrain response and now available even in the low end LR2.

Toyota, once again, steals ideas from other companies. The video did not even mention if the truck was available with locking differentials. This is a big oversight.. Or maybe, it does have any! They made a big deal with the FJ Cruiser having KSS and available rear lockers. This is a big glaring omission for a supposedly rugged off-roader. What 20" wheels can you get with all terrain, M+S rating?

This is going to be another mall cruiser serve better by the escalades, q7s, and MLs of the world.
