Or... it was a final effort by top gear to keep cars like the v12 vantage from becoming just a memory by attaching a green emotional image to it. Really, it's all they needed to do since most environmentalists are easily swayed by pretty music and shots of scenery.

Damn, Joe, you really need to think for yourself and stop being the contrarian to some archetypal environmentalist devil that exists mostly in your head. I'm not sure you really even know very many environmentalists other than through the ranting of the extreme minority. There are a lots of ideas floating around about how to produce lower-emission cars and reduce oil dependence, but the only thing that's reprehensible about them is the righteousness of their blowhard advocates and detractors. The latter would be you.

None of these ideas is being contemplated in a vacuum. There are a lot of motivations that dictate the tempo of progress, some not so noble. Greenness is no more the sole motivation for electric power than performance is for gasoline power. Also, nobody of sound mind doesn't know that a change from the current standard can produce some flops and unwanted consequences--it happened with the gasoline engine and it'll happen with whatever other power source or combination of power sources become the new momentary standard. So, when you and Clarkson are having your petrol-power pity parties, do it without the environmentalist bogey-man. Just man up and admit you'll miss the noise, but don't cry for the Aston Martin--it'll still be here.

My contrarian thinking stems mostly from the fact that people are blindly devote themselves to the idea of being green. It's very much like a religion, you have your gospel spewing news sources, your devout followers, and everyone who doesn't believe is going to hell... er I mean is destroying the world (which if you aren't selfish is even worse). To pay a premium to get a diesel or hybrid car for the idea that you are making the world a better place is silly. That amount of money would have a much stronger impact on the world if you sponsored a child in a third world country for a decade, then if your car emits less carbon dioxide and water... I fear the day that they get the balls and influence to ban old cars from the road. I dearly want to own/drive a 69 camaro and/or a model t hot rod, if these extremists get there way, everyone will be driving shitmobiles. So yes, I am contrarian in my thinking, but in my defense, it is a defensive mechanism meant to get people to use their brains again and not just go with the flow. (And yes, I have looked into different things like hydrogen solar and wind power etc, I can tear each apart because although good and interesting, none of them are the solution to anything but ways to make money off of mass public hype).
