VW GOLF GTI W12: 6.0-liter Bi-Turbo, 650Hp, 202MPH
VW presented the King of all Golf GTI’s: the Golf GTI W12 Concept. Fitted with a mid-mounted 6.0-liter 12cylinder bi-turbo engine pumping 650Hp @ 6.000 rpm and a maximum torque figure of 750Nm @ 4.500 rpm, the Golf GTI W12 sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) in just 3,7 sec while achieving a top speed of 325km/h (202 mph). Despite the extensive modifications, including a lower and broader body than the stock GTI, several air vents to cool the massive engine and the specially designed roof that plays the role of a diffuser/ spoiler, VW’s concept retains the GTI’s silhouette.

Will it enter production? I hope they offer fire -extinguishers with it, in the light of several VW fires.

the W12 and W8 engines are quite compact, it's achieved by basically mating two VR6 (narrow angle V6) engines together.
Here's a shot of the engine: http://www.seriouswheels.com/pics-stuv/VW-W12-Engine-1280x960.jpg

Brembo, in fact, the whole reason Audi and VW designed these W12 engines is so they could fit AWD into their twelve-cylinder luxury sedans, the A8L W12 and Phaeton W12. A conventional V12 take up too much of the car to allow such an axle; that's one reason why there haven't ever been S600 AWDs or 760xi models.

Again! Factual comment modded down! And this one wasn't even against the Legion of Lexus (LoL for short).

Some years ago Renault fitted a F1 engine in their Espace and this is equally insane, that would be insane to drive, and LexusNumberOne4ever i realy wouldn't mind to take the risk of having a fire in my car if my car was this one, only the idea of driving it puts ME on fire!!!

You can never, ever, ever admit to liking a German car, can you? No matter how insanely fast it is or how cool it is or how luxurious it is or how stylish it is?

Actually this concept is RWD. Autoweek:
"Powering the GTI is a newly developed twin turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine. Mounted longitudinally behind the front seats, the four-valve-per-cylinder unit produces 650 hp at 6000 rpm and 553 lb-ft of torque at 4500 rpm, bettering the standard Golf GTI’s turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder powerplant by a whopping 450 hp and 332 lb-ft. The power is channeled back to the W12-650’s rear wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox and locking differential. The ensuing fireworks see the VW concept car storm to 62 mph from standstill in just 3.7 seconds, with its top speed put at 202 mph."

this car will obviously never make it into production, but as far as "why this design study was done" I could only come up with one possible answer: Big ass engine in a little ass car = lots and lots and lots of fun

I'm guessing it's RWD< the engine being mid mounted? Same as the Renault Clio V6 is suppose (just twice as big)

There's a good way to reduce oil consumption. Retains the body shape is one thing, but how many chairs are in there?

HAHAHAHAHA This is only what i say about This concept.
BTW the body looks nice.VW should put a decent engine (V6)in it and place it above R32.
