VW Passat CC Uncovered
Volkswagen’s long awaited Passat-based four-door coupe has been revealed just hours prior to its official world debut at this week’s Detroit Auto Show. The new model will be called simply the ‘CC’ and although it’s based on the Passat platform it sits 5cm lower and stretches 3cm more than the regular VW sedan.

The CC will come with three different petrol engine options including a 160hp 1.8L TSI, a 200hp 2.0L TFSI and a range topping 300hp 3.6L V6 FSI. Diesel fans will be able to opt from two different 2.0L motors developing 140 and 170hp respectively. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a seven speed DSG, and an AWD option is also available.

Woah! It looks EXACTLY like a less-expensive CLS... which is a very good thing! It will be a hit.

Oh, and do you know what makes me angry? I know they have differently-mounted engines, but why does VW use a 300hp V6 when Audi is stuck with the 3.2? It really pisses me off.

I'm waiting for the Fake CLS bodykit to come out for it.

from the middle to the back it looks better than a CLS.

Yeah, and Mugen will make it.

the 3.6 is not made to go with the north south layout that Audi uses, the 3.2 is a better engine overall

I know that it won't fit.

But no, the 3.2 is NOT a better engine. What makes you say that? The badge on its cover?

Audi deserves a better six.

it's all aluminum and has better valvetrain

just because it's bigger doesn't make it better

+2 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
probably smoother as well

the 3.2 is a fine engine, just smaller than what the competition has (except the C350), and it gets very good fuel economy even with awd

S4cabriofoxoneS4cabriofoxone - 1/13/2008 10:40:49 PMView My AgentSpace
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Well, anyway, BMW's engine is smoother still, and gets even better fuel economy. I know Audi can do anything BMW does, and maybe even do it better. Turbocharging, AWD, MMI, diesels, interiors, the A8, semi-automatic gearboxes... all things that Audi does better than BMW, that are pretty much impossible to argue with. LOL. But BMW does better six-cylinder engines, better marketing, better handling and better heated seats (as I noticed driving the X5 the other day).

nope, the 230 (35 less) 328xi gets worse fuel economy than the A5 quattro with auto

Actually S4 theres a new V6 in the works from what I've been told. Which is why the Q7 has the VW V6. When the new one hits I think we'll all be pleased but only time will tell.

HyundaiHyundai - 1/13/2008 12:39:11 PM

Before I read your comment, S4, that is EXACTLY what I though. I was thinking, this looks just like an MB (read: CLS), or a CLS that had a love-child with an A6.

I think that it looks fantastic.

I find this VW to bit more restrained/better realized than the CLS in some ways.

Neither the front or rear of the CLS ever really sat well with me aesthetically.

Which is not to say that this vehicle makes anywhere near the design statement that the Mercedes does, I just find it a better balanced design overall.

Nice! I thought that it was in danger of looking too Dodge Intrepidish, but in the end it looks great. The only problem is that it is FWD.

Very Impressed

Im sure this will be a hit over here, especially amongst Vectra, Mondeo Buyers. Might even steal a few A4 Buyers {Sure you would be able to get a 3.6L 4Motion CC for the price of a 2.0 TDI 170hp A4 S-Line}

Even though the front end is quite similar to the Sedan but rear and roofline looks good. Overall looks much better than i thought after seeing few spyshots.

but CLS still looks better.

Considering this car will be half the price of the CLS, shouldn't that be obvious? Cut it some slack.

CLS for the masses.

Definitely sexier that most Mid-Size sedans out there! If reliability holds up it will be a winner. I can't wait for Germany makers to finally make US SMOG compliant engines in the States.

Seeing the just the initial picture I liked it. A CLS for the masses. Then I saw the rear and it screams Buick to me, and I respect Buick but not on VW's! I think the side view looks great, but head on and rear views turn my stomach...I bet VW overprices it and it doesn't sell as well as expected.

Anyone notice how cars are moving back to the styling of the 90's with wider, lower looking body styles, versus the taller, 'fatter' look? Think how the 3 series, '96 A4, Jetta and yes even the Civic brought this style on in the late 90's, which is now fading away.

Anyway, I thought the Corrado concept was cooler. But that's because Im young I suppose.

I have to admit, better than the spy photos would have suggested. There's really a lot going on there on the sides, and I'm not sure why. As for the comment about the back looking like a Buick, well, I think it was the Lucerne that copped the Passat look at the back (and come to think of it, the new Malibu is pretty similar).
The interior looks great, especially the seats, which look like they're from an Italian car.
I don't think they'll sell many of these though - what's the market? No doubt it will be in the high 30s, over 40 loaded, and again, I think the badge will hurt it. It's not outstanding enough to overcome the badge.

It's really nice, and in fact, it does looks like the Peugeot 607. But I think VW should have chosen another name for that car, as it is intented to be an upscale version of the passat.

They should remember what happenned with the 4motion W8 Passat...

I do think that VW can successfully sells cars in the premium market, but it should't be named the same way as their Camry contender.

Great car, wrong name.
