isn't it a glorified hilux/frontier? and I don't know how anyone (even diehard VW fans)would choose this over a toyo/nissan/ford/chevy with very formidable history in the truck market.

Knowing VW, this will have a very comfy interior, especially the seats. I'm sure it will not have an ugly grille like the Nissan.

If it is, it certainly does not look like them. In these pictures, it has a GM look to it. The "greenhouse" does not match either a Frontier or a Hilux. However, the shape of the doorhandles, and the dimensions look to be spot on for a Hilux.

Compare:

Definitely looks like a cross between a Frontier and the last generation S10.

Do people even buy trucks anymore, why continue work on this project? I know Ford just announced it is converting 3 of its factories from Trucks/SUVs to cars.

This project should be aborted. Who needs more trucks?

Since when is Nissan in Germany? I'd guess they'll be built in the US alongside the Frontier.

Correction: its being built in Argentina. Wonder if its actually a VW design?

the truck / suv market is still 1/2 of the US market

As long as it comes with a diesel option..like a turbo 4 banger that would be great!

Its big (thirsty) truck sales that are down, but those buyers are more likely buying a small truck instead rather than a Focus/Corolla/Sentra, so expect small truck sales to surge!

In a review of 6 pickups in Australia, the Nissan Navara came out #1, mostly because it had the best handling and was the most comfortable. "Nissan has sold more Navara utes than Toyota has sold Camrys." in Australia (where pickups are called "utes")

utes are a different story, they are based on passenger cars(i.e. holden commodore and ford falcon can be ordered with a bed. and the frontier is a great truck.

And VW continues to make staggering product mistakes...anyone want to tell them about the $14K rebates on Dodge Rams going on right now? http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?threadid=876688
