VW denies pulling sixth-generation Golf from U.S.
The European press has been reporting that Volkswagen has decided to pull the Golf, known as the Rabbit on the stateside, from the U.S. market due to unfavorable exchange rates. Denying those reports today, Volkswagen of America said it has every intention to proceed with plans to launch the sixth-generation of the Rabbit in the U.S. in fall 2009.
“We are currently planning the new Golf VI and GTI introduction for the fall of next year. The estimated volumes are already included in our...

Look, I don't really know why you have a vendetta against Audi/VW, but the Golf is really a fantastic car. Why do you think it's frequently the best-selling car in Europe? Not because it's cheap, but because it's perfect for them. It's at once very fun to drive and very practical. It has great steering, great build quality, great fuel efficiency (diesel), decent style, and in Europe it even has bulletproof reliability. I don't think you can argue with that.

Cricket is huge there.
It's like this, Americans feel compelled to drive american cars (some Americans). Germans like to drive German cars, it is a cheap alternative to other German or Italian, or english cars.
In Europe it may be the best choice, in the US it hasn't proven anything except to be unrealiable after about 4 yrs.

From the article this one linked to:
"According to Volkswagen source, start-stop technology will be offered as standard on the BlueMotion version of the sixth-generation of the Golf."
I have no doubt that that means the new VW diesels will get better overall mileage than their hybrid competitors.

Why is VW now denying the fact that they were going to deny us this car by making a statement to save us from denying it, but now says we were never going to be denied and was planed from the beginning not to deny us, and is now helping to deny any previous denials made by them, are we in denial?

BECAUSE VW NEVER SAID THEY WEREN'T GOING TO BRING IT HERE. IT WAS A RUMOR STARTED BY THE EUROPEAN PRESS.

Aren't these vehicles built in Mexico alongside the Jetta and Beetle?

Nope... only the Beetle and Jetta are built there.
The rest of the VW cars are built in Deutschland.

"If the only things that mattered to a car buyer were performance, comfort, and safety, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen (including Audi) would make the dean's list. Their cars ride and handle especially well, have comfortable seats, and have relatively good fuel economy and acceleration."

Don't quote me on this one, but I thought I read this article a little while back on VW US market strategy, and that article said that while the next gen Golf and Jetta will be in the US, it will be slightly different (different components, some differences in mechanical design) than the European version to save on costs.
I could be wrong, but has anyone read anything similar to that?

ktu01,
You are not wrong. Is about time that VW will do what Honda and Toyota did for years with the cars they sell in US. Build them cheap VW, it worked for Honda and Toyota. Apparently, that's the way the sheep likes it.

Yeah the US Corolla has a cheaper interior than the European Auris (which is a Corolla in all but name)

Star,
Since when did building a car in the US/Canada become cheaper than building one in Mexico and Eastern Europe?
alextx,
They're the same car, Golf can be glued together by Mexicans too if VW realy wanted to. Probably figure they can make more selling Jettas over here instead of Wabbits.

"Since when did building a car in the US/Canada become cheaper than building one in Mexico and Eastern Europe?"
Since Honda and Toyota started building cheaper versions of the cars they sell in Europe. What I mean by that is find ways to cut the costs by using lower quality materials and selling under engineered versions of the cars they sell in Europe. If a regular European Honda is sold as "premium" car in US under Acura badge, what do you think is the quality of the car they sell for less money under the Honda badge in America? Use common sense...
Toyota and Honda sell trash in America at this time. They use to sell fairly good cars but then they got smarter. Now they sell modified(read cheapened) versions of the cars they sell in the rest of the world because the ****** buyer here will buy anything badged Honda or Toyota without questions asked.

The Rabbit and Jetta are the same vehicle, even as they may be built in two different countries. One is a hatch back and one is a sedan, but the same car. Kind of like the Focus ZX5 and the Focus sedan. The Jetta SportWagen (coming in July) is a stretched version of the Rabbit/Jetta. Kind of like the Focus wagon.
