Audi and VW make some of the nicest looking cars available in the U.S. at this time.

This is the perfect retro van. With a little effort, this thing can be a success.

I'm not sure how it should look...maybe a little future/retro-ish? Camaro-like in terms of philosophy?

VW has the money and the success right now. They really should spend some worthwhile cash on this classic.

Remember...lots of memories were created in VW's many microbuses.

...they're about to roll out that crap Chrysler/VW van. Think they'll actually do this?
Doubt it.

You do have a point. The Routan, which may be a little better than the Dodge Caravan or Chrysler Town & Country, is just another minivan. A modern-tech Microbus, however, would be something different. Here's to Flower Power!

VW's retro Beetle was so successful. BMW had another success with the retro Mini. And now FIAT has made a splash with the retro 500. Ford, Dodge & Chevrolet have successfully resurrected their "musclecars" of the 60s. Why VW chose to cancel the Microbus was beyond me.

Prosit, Herr Winterkorn!

it would need a real hood for crash testing so it coulnd't possibly look like that in real life.

The other problem was that it would end up too small and too expensive for American tastes.

The Routan is big (what the US market requires) and much cheaper than a 100% VW van would cost.

what's crap about this (old) concept? Are you jealous that it's better looking than your car?

Interior looked even better. Incredibly futuristic and Ikea-clever with all kinds of storage and expanding tables, etc. Naturally it was "only" a concept, but still...
