Video: 2008 Cadillac CTS Unveiled at Detroit Auto Show
GM today unveiled the new 2008 Cadillac CTS at the NAIAS and here is a short clip of the beauty driving onto stage for those that couldn’t be there to see it with their own eyes. The 2008 Cadillac CTS has a 113 inch wheelbase making it longer and wider than its predecessor. Under the hood, the car has a 3.6 liter WT V6 variable-valve-timing engine that produces 258 horsepower and 252 lb.-ft of torque. That will be the base version model for the North American launch. Check out our original post for more images and information on the 2008 Cadillac CTS.

That's nice, they changed it enough w/o doing an overhaul.
Kind of mediocre numbers with the 3.6L V6 though, but then it doesn't tell the whole story.

They said that V6 is a *base* engine option.
Cough-cough-there will be a 300hp version-cough-cough.

An overhaul is what it needs. Thing thing it the ugliest vehicle in its class.

Impressive. However, the one thing that concerns me is how well will this car age. Remember when the last CTS came out? It was getting as much appraisal for its cutting edge design as this new CTS is getting. Yet only after a year, most lost interest in its design. They saw right through its multi-faceted design and continued to prefer the subtle elegance of cars like the 3-Series, A4, and IS. I am worried that this will suffer the same fate...

Well the last model continued to sell better each year until 2006 which I think sold a little slower than 2005. Seems like continued interest in the design to me.

Finally. Lovely. The interior looks very good as well. There's nothing embarrassing about this car. Good job Cadillac.

That's a sharp car, I agree with huu76, I was hoping for better numbers from the V6. The competitors to the CTS are generally in the 270-300 HP range for their V6s (Acura TL, Infiniti G35, BMW 335i, Lexus IS350, Audi A4, etc)...

As for engine complaining the car will get a 300hp+ DI option. No final HP numbers yet, but could be best in class.

Very nice, for an American brand I think cadillac has some very nice model. I really like the CTS/CTS-V alot; to bad it doesn't has the realability like the Japanese brand.

Lexus: Toyota recalled more vehicles than it sold in the US last year, not to mention the fact that prosecutors in Japan are investigating whether Toyota is negligent for shirking recalls for the past eight years.
Is that the vaunted Toyota quality you're referring to?

Really?
They had a little over a million recalls worldwide (for stupid things but a recall is a recall) and they sold about 2 1/2 milllion cars here.
Voluntary recalls (childseat latches, FJ tire rubbing, RX/Highlander dash panel falling off, first batch of Camry's had poorly forged metal for transmission).
Forced recalls were the steering column which I never heard of any faults found.
Shall we go through the German list? I'll just mention the new Mini's fuel pump was recalled before the car even went to market. Very efficient indeed.
