Video: 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid vs 2008 Mercedes GL320 CDI
It may sound stupid to you if we call any full-size SUV fuel-efficient but the 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid and the 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI are the two most fuel-efficient full-size SUVs currently on the road. And if you’re in the market for a gas-guzzling giant beast (and of course if you have the money to spend) we recommend these two.

The 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid gets an EPA rating of 20/20mpg (city/highway) while the 2008 Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI comes in at 18/24mpg.

Power for the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid comes from a 6.0L V8 engine producing 332-hp and 367 lb-ft of torque. The Mercedes-Benz GL320 CDI runs on a 3.0L turbocharged V6 producing 215-hp and 398 lb-ft of torque.

Pricing wise the Tahoe Hybrid starts at $53,295 while the GL320 CDI goes for $54,225.

A Mercedes and a Chevy compared. Price it's no competition. Looks, luxury, and quality is no competition either. And fuel economy no competition there either.

A lame excuse to have a comparo.

that is complete and utter crap! german diesels are unrefined at best they improved when they coppied the commen rail engine developed by toyota which improved their horse power but it is a missconception that their diesels are the best. look at the ML 320d its a terrible car always has been since its launch. The bmw's are better and have gotten allot of power from their engines but their reliability is not good at all. ur general statement that germans are the best at making diesels is not right

My 320d has 104,000 miles on it and has never missed a beat so you're comment about reliability not being good is just plain wrong. There were problems with the 2002 models when they introduced the 150bhp 2.0 litre but those problems were ironed out. And the common rail system wasn't developed by Toyota it was developed by a Swiss man called Robert Huber in the 1960's, the first passenger cars to use the system were the Alfa Romeo 156 1.9 JTD and Mercedes E320CDI. Look it up -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_rail

Toyota in no way whatsoever had anything to do with the development of the common rail diesel - Mercedes and Alfa were pioneers in that field.

Actually the FIAT group and PSA make the best diesel engines.

FIAT supplies SAAB and Opel with diesel engines for their cars.

PSA makes good diesels, and they were leaders with VW in the early 90s, but now they are one of a very good crowd of diesel makers. VW/Audi's latest offerings (new 2.0 tdi with the same outputs as before but with more mpg and fuel efficiency) are quieter and cleaner than ever.

Sorry GM, call me a "Badge Whore" (that is so d*mn funny to me!) but I would take the Benz. Did GM HAVE to announce that this vehicle is a Hybrid like that? I know its petty but I hope they dont do this to the Escalade Hybrid.

...as a matter of fact, shouldnt the Hybrid system be standard on the entire Escalade line?...)

(...Im referring to the Benz vs. Chevy name in the first line and the fact that the Tahoe has the "Hybrid" word everywhere on the lines that follow)
