Video: 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged
We’ve started seeing the 2009 Jaguar XF on the roads and we can say without a doubt that it is definitely a head-turner. InsideLine recently got behind the $62,975 Jaguar XF Supercharged and here is there video review of the fastest kitty in the XF lineup.

Powered by a supercharged 4.2 liter V8 engine the 2009 Jaguar XF Supercharged produces 420-hp with a peak torque of 408 lb-ft. Jaguar says that 0-60 comes in 5.1 seconds, however InsideLine managed to do it in 5.5 seconds (5.0 with 1 foot of rollout). The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Jaguar’s Sequential Shift with steering wheel mounted paddles.

I liked the XK when it came out and I like the XF. I think they've come along way and changed the way everyone looks at Jaguar. Although they are years away from an Audi, BMW, & Mercedes, they are on the right track.

Where are they "years away?" Sales? Because in product, they're right up there with the best.

I meant they're appeal. They lacked the appeal of the "younger generations" but now I feel the XF is a force to be reckoned with.

I've always liked the XJ, classical British luxury.

Years away? I doubt it, they've consistently been placing in the top 5 or so in J.D Power Quality studies... More like years ahead of Audi and BMW.

Want to rip a new one? what for? Did I rip on your beloved Jaguar? It was a compliment so take it as that. As I just said I have always liked the XJ.

I don't know where you live but where I live I see Jaguars in the shop quite often. My friend is the president of MCL Motors here in Vancouver and he has no reason to lie. However, Jaguar has a sense of prestige and that's what I like. With TaTa becoming their new parent company, I expect great things for the company.

You can't say the previous generation XK, S-Type & X-Type was in true contention against the Germans. NOW THEY ARE and that's what matters. I'm a fan of the XF! looks amazing on the road. It screams for attention.

So rip on that one buddy.

Agent 63 I was commenting on your observation that they are years away from the like of Audi,.Jaguar is number 8 in the world in long term dependability. Higher than all other Euro brands. Just because you know a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy that says that Jaguars are always in the shop you have to consider the source. ITS A REPAIR FACILITY. What the hell else is he going to say?

Dude, every thing breaks. There is no perfect car. But one persons opinion is not a trend.Numbers don't lie.

You don't hear a lot about the 250,000 Lexus an d Toyotas they had to recall last year because they have such large positive word of mouth, that its a blip. But have one Jaguar break and every on says see thats an unreliable car. Is that fair? I think not. Just get educated a little more on Jaguar before you make blanket statements and I'll be fine. LOL

No it's not fair and I don't disagree either. I've also heard many scenarios about Range Rovers/Land Rovers in the shop. However, I still like the Range Rovers & Jaguars.

Even if their not years away in product they WERE years away from catering to the younger buyers. Now having said that, the new XK and XF will definitely put them on the map.

If only the front was a little bit closer to the concept. i was hoping they would have done that for the supercharged, but maybe they're saving that for an XK-R edition. If I got this car it would need some work on the front. the back looks great and is very close to the concept car. It just doesn't look quite aggressive enough.

Best is class for now.

Only problem is the BMW 5-Series has a new model in the Pipeline
And MB E-Class
And Audi A6

So by 2010 the XF would be back to where it was 3rd or 4th place

Might even end up behind the GS

Unless Audi and Mercedes do something drastic, I don't think the A6 or E-Class will end up as desirable or compelling as the XF. Both of them are just too boring right now. Obviously, the S6/RS6 and E63 AMG are in a different league, but they're supposed to be.

The only one that could end up better is the 5er, if it looks like the CS and has a lot of new tech.

I agree, the S/RS 6 and the E63 are in a different league. I also think they cater to different buyers as well. The Jaguar's for the traditionalist who wants some punch of modern-day power with some cool new gadgets they can brag to their friends. It's not a bad proposition if you ask me. The XF will attract many younger and elderly of consumers. Capturing a market with old money and new money is surely a winner.

I'm a fan of the Audi's and Merc sedans but the XF gives another option on that list. All the cars on the list are great by the way so my comment is not bias-based. The XF has something different to offer. Just look at the gear shifter. It's a knob. Even the Germans couldn't have thought of that! otherwise they would've had it years ago.

Now that's not to say the next E-Class, 5er, A6 model ranges won't be just as compelling when they're due for a refresh, it just means XF had to go that extra step to gain some recognition. THAT THEY'VE DONE!

I expect the new XJ to be just as gorgeous & more. Hell, I think the current XJ is gorgeous. With a revamp of their model ranges it should bring healthy competition. At least it'll give me more options when time to purchase a new car :)

All these luxury sedans bring out different emotions in a driver. THe XF just happens to be the one that gives the driver some assurance that their Jag is now hip and with the times.

Good job Jag!

Probably not because the Xf is light years ahead right now so thye are playing catch up. and just think the 500hp version isn't out yet not to mention the new XJ

Light years ahead ?

They are still running an almost 10 year old 4.2L engine as their Flagship
They are still using the S-Type Chasis
They have a 5.0l 500hp engine in the pipeline while BMW has had a 5.0L 507hp Engine in the M5 for over 3 years now.

Must be perfect in whatever hallucination you reside in.

Hi again I 95. How are you. Feeling well I hope.

That being said. Lets get to business. First if it ain't broke don't fix it. The motors are fine and yes they are behind the curve on a 500 HP motor, but that because Jag wasn't competing with the AMG, M , and RS cars. Now they will so there you go.
Just so you know the 4.2 is a bullet proof motor that has proven to be a great engine. It in the Entire Jaguar range the entire Landie range and in the Aston Range. So what's your beef?

As for the chassis there was wide agreement that the S-TYPE chassis was at the end of its run a world class chassis. That was never its problem. They took an already great chassis and made it better by building it out of more advance materials. Notably 28 different types of steel, like boron in the A pillars. (The most advance in the world by the way. No other car uses that much high strength steel). Thats why its being said that the XF has a best in class set up.
All things stem from the chassis. The suspension haas to work less on body flex the stiffer the chassis. So guess what it rides better and drives better then the 5 the E and the A6,

P.S. I guess my drugs are better than yours because I can see clearly now.

Curiously, there's nothing unique, or even particularly special, about the XF's chassis hardware. The front suspension is double wishbone, and there's a multilink set up at the rear, fairly standard fare for a car in this class. Okay, the shocks feature Jaguar's CATS adaptive damping technology, but, again, this is hardly a new or unique technology. So what's the alchemy at work here?

I know from experience Jaguar's ride and handling wizard, Mike Cross, is one of the best in the business. The quietly spoken Cross is our kinda car guy: A demon driver, race quick on the track, with the innate ability to make almost any rear-drive car corner in a lurid tire-smoking drift when he feels like having fun. Yet his cars are anything but the rock-hard, kidney-rattling rides you can sometimes get from enthusiast engineers.

Part of the secret -- and only part, for although I've known Mike for years, and been on several very fast and very sideways rides with him in prototype Jags, he won't reveal all the tricks of his trade -- is that Jaguar pays close attention to controlling the roll rate of the suspension, even when the car is travelling in a straight line. The idea, says Cross, is to reduce what ride and handling engineers call "head toss," the side-to-side pitching of your head that occurs when your car rides over bumps on alternate sides.

You can feel it in the XF in the way the vertical body movements are so deftly modulated. But that's only part of the story. The XF, like our much-missed XKR long termer, rides beautifully for a car rolling on low-profile 20-inch Pirelli PZeros. It's firm and taut, but never harsh. A constant dialogue from the chassis means you know exactly what's going on where the rubber meets the road, but the conversation is always calm and muted, even when you're driving hard. How? I suspect a lot of time and effort on geometry and bush design, but only Mike Cross and his team really know.

Here's what I like most about the new Jaguar XF: I find it somehow reassuring that, even in this age of computer-aided engineering and zillion-gigabyte simulation programs, the auto industry still has black arts that are only truly mastered by their most experienced and talented practitioners. The XF's sublime chassis proves beyond question that when it comes to fine tuning ride and handling, there is simply no substitute for the human touch.
