Video: Nissan GT-R takes on the Porsche 911 Turbo
When Nissan engineers were working on the GT-R their benchmark was the 480hp Porsche 911 Turbo. The lucky guys over at CAR have gotten their hands on the first GT-R to arrive in the UK and have put it in a head-to-head test against the 911 Turbo on Rockingham’s circuit.

This is the first part of the video where Ben Barry takes out the 911 Turbo on the track. However, when the GT-R was about to hit the track the storm clouds magically blew in. So, part two of the video will debut tomorrow.

wrong. it's a little lotus with a celica engine. the 2zz in the celica is more powerful and more torquey than the older 1zz in the mr-s.

and a GT3 will still take the Lotus...

if you hot heads would just calm down they're trying to make this comparison as fair as possible..they could just take whatever time the gtr got and say the 911 won but then we'd have some extremely pissed off gtr fans complaining the conditions aren't fair blah blah and that test would've been all for nothing..i don't like it anymore then you but if they say they'll have it posted tomorrow then just have some patience, it could be tomorrow it could be 2 days later but guaranteed they won't be the only ones doing tests like these...on a final point huge respects to both cars can't wait to see who comes out on top

how is Porsche destroyed? When Nissan can sell the GT-R for Porsche prices, then you'll be saying something. Not to take anything away from the GT-R's performance, but value is the biggest part of its appeal. People willingly spend big bucks for Porsches, and they will continue to do so.

The Porsche 911 Turbo is a classic.

The Versa GT-R is an over grown space alien.

Long live Porsche ;-)

The 911 is a great car, but so is the GT-R, get used to it or you'll be living a life of denial.

43LE or whatever it is...you are right..

To me..both cars are great, except for oil leak on the porsche engines but in short, GT-R is amazing for its price and any person trying to downplay a serious machine such as GT-R is in a serious denial and should be dragged off to corn field and shot.

GTR is a beast!!! godzilla. Not supposed to look like pretty boy brat pitt.
Its look supposed to inflict FEAR in your rear view mirror, not some smiley face.

That's the design language that you fail to understand.

I love the GTR design, unorthodox bruise lines, aggressive and very pop japanese

Because it steals ideas from the Corvette, Ferrari and the Eclipse among others and when you jam all those styling cues together you get a monstrosity.

Nissan calls it the GT-R.

Look at that ugly roof line?...where did they get that, from a WWII era tank? lol

GoObama08, you are a moron. You are doing an incredible disservice to the senator's presidential campaign. i like Obama, but i shudder to think of being aligned with an idiot like you.

You really embarrassed yourself in the 'global warming' thread. If you want to convince people about Obama, you should try to present some relevant facts instead of resorting to immature name calling and baseless declarations that you do not qualify with real information.

"...stupid republicans..."
"Shut the f___ up, you stupid conservatives"
"...brainwashed conservative monkeys"
"if we really wanted to, we could power the whole USA on cheap green energy right now..."

These are just a few of your dumbass quotes. You are an embarrasment to all democrats. You are an immature, ill-informed, and naive individual. Do you really think that insulting republicans is the way for Obama to win the white house? Do you remember that red states out-populate blue states? Inflaming the conservative base would mobilize them in the election and spell certain defeat for the democrats. G.W. Bush has already proven this in 2004.

All of which brings me around to my current point: you don't know much about cars, even less about politics. I'm sure you won't stop offering your opinions here, but just in case no one ever told you before, YOU ARE AN IDIOT.

To Turbo Spyder, the video is alittle dark but if you take a closer look it says crushes not chases (i took a second look after you mentioned it)there are 7 letters not six

24 Hours of Le Mans

"Porsche is the most successful manufacturer in the history of Le Mans, winning its class more than 50 percent of the time with a combination of LMP1 prototypes and production-based GT2 class racer cars.

"Porsche has scored 16 overall wins at Le Mans, achieved by famous race drivers like Jacky Ickx, Jürgen Barth, Klaus Ludwig, Henri Pescarolo, Hans-Joachim Stuck, Alexander Wurz, Tom Kristensen, Michele Alboreto, Allan McNish and Laurent Aiello for both customer and works teams. Additionally, Porsche works drivers have earned dozens of class victories in GT2 class, most recently Marc Lieb and Mike Rockenfeller together with privateer Leo Hindery in 2005, the 7th consecutive class victory for the Porsche GT3 R/RS/RSR family.

"In 2007 the new Porsche GT3 RSR (Type 997) continued that success. With a six-lap advantage over the second-placed Ferrari, the French customer team IMSA Performance won the GT2 class."

American Le Mans Series:

"In the last nine seasons (1999 - 2007) Porsche has won the manufacturer's title nine times, Porsche customer teams have won seven times, and the driver's title went to Porsche drivers on nine occasions."

There is no substitute.

the GT-R should annihilate the Turbo on the track as the R8 was faster than the Turbo on Willow spring by 2 sec. and the GT-R is faster than the R8 at the Nurburgring. Math is easy. Turbo is dead. GT2 or GT3RS different story.

I'm tired of people that keep saying that they don't like the GT-R because its Ugly.

1. Beauty is subjective, not objective
2. Form follows Function
3. It doesnt matter, as long as it kicks ass

But I would still go for the Turbo, but I wouldn't turn down a GT-R.

And as for a 911 being twitchy.. maybe you just need to learn to drive... if you have ever driven one.....

HAHA... Porsche doesn't hope to beat the GT-R. You really think that Porsche really cares that the GT-R is out there. Its a whole different market niche. Its like going for a $70K RS4 v. BMW 7er. Its two completely different markets.
