[Video]Volkswagen Park Assist Parks it self with no driver in car
First just watch the video

Now, I think this is a cool idea and a good start towards new things. But this can lead to problems like how will the computer know if another driver is going to leave the parking lot the same time or a lot of other problems will occur. I think it's kinda cool how it starts on its own and then moves for you. What problems can you see this car having?

Volkswagen is offering Park Assist on some of their cars - not Audi. Keep that in mind before you start pointing fingers.

absolutely

First they made fun of other brand (Lexus) and now themselves doing the same. Just shows deep inside they liked the Lexus's innovative new feature but couldn't accept it that time.

similar case with Lexus's worlds first 8 speed automatic gearbox. Earleir most german fanboys and some bias magazines slammed it, that Lexus just one bettered MB's 7 speed automatic and it's not that great...etc but now it looks like BMW is also in process of getting one. and more and more soon.

but atleast BMW didn't make fun of 8 speed.

Last time I checked this story was about Volkswagen, not Audi.

I very much doubt Audi will buse this technology.

The Lexus can easily incorporate this into their existing system, nothing original about this VW technology

I believe this system was actually available before the system in the toyota. Either way most people prefer to park themselves.

VW had cars in the lab way before Karl Benz commercialized automobiles. People need to get their facts straight.

This is a swell idea and an idea that is user friendly.

Good for VW ;->

Yes, good for VW. But also good for Lexus for having it's own system for parallel parking ;->

This gadget could prove useful when parking in a lot with narrow parking spaces. A driver could get out of the car before parking it. Thus he wouldn't risk door dings while getting out of his parked cars.

However, unless the cars on both sides of you are also equipped with park assist, you will still have to deal with door dings inflicted by cars parked beside you. A cute gimmick, but not really needed unless you are physically handicapped or have poor depth perception.

By the way, does the Lexus system enable the driver to park while he is outside of his car?

But if you go out, and then the car parks... how will you get back in without touching other cars? hmm..

Exactly M53R! How do you get back in? Towing truck come free with vw park assist?

I dare someone buy this thing and let it park itself next to a drop-off cliff. See how well this thing really works.

It parks itself, but does it come out itself? because if you are parking in a tight space, and get out first, how will you get into the car to pull out?

I havent watched the video, but I was just wondering, does anyone know if it comes out by itself? Same with all the other self-parking gadgets.

I watched the video. The system will start the parked car & pull out of its parking space.

If as you say VW had this tech ages ago, why wasn't it released ?? Hmmm..

search around.
At the time it was just a prototype and it was not deemed necessary for production. Lexus thought it was. More power to them, but it is far from perfect. You need too much space infront and behind the car for the system to park the car itself. That is probably why VW never came out with it.
Just like Audi had a Hybrid way before Toyota, called the Audi Duo (back in 1996). At the time no one cared for it.
