AWESOME
A VIPER AND A CORVETTE BEAT THE NISSAN GT-R, proof that all the techno wizardry in the world is not always enough. Good old sportscar stuff, simple as that. ;-)

The GT-R is much heavier, less powerful, and has back seats.

I have to be honest...this isn't that hard of a feat if the Nissan GT-R could do it almost just as well.
The domestics know how to make sports cars, and if they don't have to worry about the ride comfort and everything...of course they can make do it (break the record).
Just compare the F430 to the Scuderia.

Actually the ride comfort of the new Corvette ZR-1 is one of things it is getting praised for.

And it also performs on the track.

A similar sytem to the BMW electronic dampening system.

I've never heard anybody rave about the ride in the GT-R.

Could you imagine what the ZR1 would do with the ACR's racecar setup?

One key element was that the driver was good. I strongly believe the driver is the first and foremost key to doing well on any track. The Viper is typically a tail happy car and you don't see any visible slides on turns. The driver controlled the beast very well and even messed up on one gear but still managed to do such a time.

Not all the times tested by manufacturers have drivers that are world class. It's unfortunate. We should have this guy test drive all the cars to see.

Well said, Agent 63. Your comment reminded me of a funny story: On the way to a beer festival several years ago, I got talked into going to sales meeting for entrepreneurs that felt more like an infomercial pyramid scam. The host tried to make an analogy about buying into the program.

Host: "...It would be like you were on I-880 in a Lambo racing against Mario Andretti in '71 VW Super Beetle. Who do you think is going to win? YOU wou--"

Me: "Whatever, man. That's not true."

Host: "Why would say that -- since you interrupted me?"

Me: "Simple. You're asking an inexperienced racer to get behind the wheel of an 500+ H.P. sports car to out run Mario F'N Andretti!? Pul-ease!, even in a straight line, the inexperienced driver is more likely to crash once they're in excess of their normal highway speeds -- it's been said many times that "power is nothing without control."

Host: "Ahem...um...moving on...."

...Damn, that beer was good.

At the top of the article one of the cars the Viper is said to have beaten (time-wise) was the LF-A. What was the LF-A's lap time again?

i think he had at least 5 sec left min the table, he was very conservative on his breaking points. Combine this with the late shifting, a record time is definately realistic. Was this car on stock tires and stock weight brake fluids? if it was...wow, what a machine.

Call me crazy but I don't believe it. The Viper Nurburgring time was leaked on the same day that Cerebrus/Chrysler put the Viper brand on the selling block. Way too fishy. Leave it to Nardelli.

Ok you are crazy. J/K

There are some side by side videos of it against the ZR-1 video, with a timer. When you watch it, there is no doubt it is legit.
