The hottest-ever Scirocco has just blown in - and it should go down a storm when it comes to the UK in 2010!

Auto Express can now reveal that it previews a new performance flagship Scirocco which will rival Ford's Focus RS, and is effectively a roadgoing version of the GT24 racer.

When the model joins the line-up, it's likely to be badged R20T - as Auto Express revealedin Issue 1,041. It will come with a 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged petrol engine,giving 262bhp.

This powerplant has been shoehorned into the Studie R, andis a development of the current Audi S3's unit. It promises to shave about a second off the Audi's 0-62mph time, giving a figure of around six seconds. The VW Group's dual-clutch DSG box is also likely to feature.

Too little too late. Current Mazdaspeed3 is still more powerful and better handler, next one should be even better in refinement where VW's only edge resides.

The MP3 is still superior in power/torque and handling to any HB from europe and it still is. A brand new one with more refinement is just over the horizon. All euro HB sold in the US are weak, so I don't know what you're talking about. If Mazda did enter this Hot-hatch war, it brought an atomic bomb to a knife fight. That is why euro HB don't suffer torque steer or have traction problems, they were too weak to even squeel the tires. But now that VW has finally caught up to Mazda in the power department, you will be complaining about torque steer. Mark my word.

I do agree the MSP3 does have a cheap hollow plastic interior. It was trying to emulate the VWs which also has cheap hard plastic interiors. Only difference is, the Mazda has a more stylish dash while the Rabbits is just plain looking. I've driven both and I can safely say, I don't know where people keep getting this idea that VW interiors are high quality and plush. They are hard, cold and very uninviting and the car drives soft and rolls alot. There is nothing sport about Golfs/Rabbits at all and i don't expect scirocco to be any different. But I don't have to worry, it ain't coming to the US anyway.

TheSailor..You are entirely correct. The MazdaSpeed3 is a "wanna-be" (just like badgewhore). Like you said, Mazda basically dropped a higher-performing engine in a Mazda 3 and did little or nothing in the suspension, tranny, or other (what I call) supporting mechanics of the vehicle to compensate for the added power. Poor choice by Mazda (in my opinion). The new Scirocco, on the other hand, may very well be at the top of the list of hatch-backs.

Many "boy racers" here in the USA as well (And, on this website!). That's why us big boys can afford the big toys and don't have to live at home to be able to afford them.
