Volkswagen Introduces The 2009 Passat CC Gold Coast
To kick off the market launch of the new CC, Volkswagen of America, Inc. will debut a CC Gold Coast edition at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, August 15-17. The CC Gold Coast highlights the luxury sports coupe with powerful performance, strong lines and luxury touches combining the emotional and expressive stance of a sports coupé with the convenience of a luxury sedan.

“The CC Gold Coast builds upon the luxury sports coupe that debuted at the 2008 North American International Auto Show,” said Derek Jenkins, Chief Designer at Volkswagen’s Santa Monica, California Design Center. “We’ve added luxury and performance extras like tri-coat paint, high-end interior appointments, and ground affects that enhance the sportiness of our newest sedan.”

The unmistakable Volkswagen front-end, with two cross-struts and a centrally placed Volkswagen logo between trapezoidal headlamps is highlighted by the ground effects on the CC Gold Coast. A high-end tri-coat paint, DuPont’s Pepe Pepper, features a rich mix of gold, brown and silver tones that compliment the cars design characteristics.

The rear end of the coupé is also marked by large-surface dual taillights that produce an unmistakable visual image day and night. A spoiler with additional rear-end ground effects helps further enhance the vehicle’s sporty nature. The CC Gold Coast sits on 19 inch propeller style wheels, which provide a combination of sharp style and improved curb appeal.
Volkswagen’s attention to detail is shown off in the interior of the CC Gold Coast with four ergonomically formed sport seats wrapped in luxurious leather, a combination of Latte Macchiatto, Cornsilk with Bronze Piping on the seats with matching accents on the dash and door trim.

The CC Gold Coast edition features the 3.6L TFSI, rated at 280 horsepower and 265lbs.-ft of torque, with the innovative DSG double-clutch 6-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic, yet another example of the car’s dual nature. The DSG system not only offers the driver the advantage of choosing between fully automatic operation or full manual selection, DSG also changes gears more quickly and smoothly than a conventional transmission, while improving fuel economy.

The CC comes to U.S. market in the fourth quarter of 2008, with a starting price under $27,000.

Not bad for a VDub. Nice crisp lines. The rear needs work though, it reminds me of the ugly Concord.

Also, with this model VW might just be removed from Gaywheels.com as their favorite brand.

"Also, with this model VW might just be removed from Gaywheels.com as their favorite brand."

Our forester was on the gaywheels list, but I could care less about what they because I think gay and lesbian people are more smarter, nicer and mature than most of us straights. Its usually the idiot college and HS girl drivers behind the VWs that would rather talk on their phone with their girlfriends about meeting in the mall with their boyfriends.

Htay, you mean "I couldn't care less". I know 95% of yanks including educated types on TV say "I could care less" but it is a meaningless phrase and gramatically incorrect.

Having said that, I don't think I have ever sat down and wondered what Gays and lesbians drive. So I guess I couldn't care less either.

Homer,
You might want to brush up on actual research connecting sexual orientation to biological basis -not subjective rantings and opinion. Know that your opinion is ignorant and not informed what-so-ever but your certainly entitled to wallow in it.

My apologies go to those whom I have made their eyes alittle watery. Please know that I am not Anti-Gayism (eventhough I think it's gross) so for my actions, I have BOOSTED all of the ones I think I have offended and I hope that it can cure the horrible pain. If not, I hope your boyfriends make you feel better. However, I still think VW is gay, but that is only my opinion and I don't think it should offend anyone; On the contrary, I think that you should feel proud that you (gays) are not alone in the autoworld.

I think its a real nice design. To bad VW doesn't have a more aggressive engine offering for this vehicle.

There is 300hp 4 motion I believe, I think thats pretty good.

Sorry, I see they are saying 280hp. Still with a DSG it will go very well.

Based on price point and driveability, I agree. I think 280 is enough hp. However, I think this design borders on exotic, and because of that, I think it should have a more exotic power rating.

NOT BAD FOR AN IMITATION CLS WAY TO GO VDUB. JUST TAKE THE CLS AND PUT A VW SIGN ON THE GRILLE AND CHANGE THE TAIL LIGHT AND THERE IS YOU PASSAT CC. SO THAT MEANS THE AUDI A7 WILL BE OUT AS A 2010 MODEL WHICH IS ANOTHER CLS IMITATION. THE INTERIOR IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE CLS NO DIFFERENCE. WAY TO GO VW KEEP UP THE COPYING......OH I MEAN THE GOOD WORK....

b7fan - if you hate vw/audi, i got a suggestion for you, stop reading and posting on vw/audi blogs. i get it, you do it because bmw isn't doing much so you wouldn't have nothing to post on.

come on there is nothing unique about that CC that the Benz CLS has done besides it being 20-30 grand cheaper than the cls. no originality just a carbon copy

OK B7fan, how would you compete as an auto maker? If you saw a very small niche that seems to be untapped and another automaker was enjoying a tremendous amount of success, would you just stand back and say good for them? Or would you design a product that would compete on that level to some degree or at least offer an alternative choice for someone who wanted that type of design but couldn't afford it.

B7FANB7FAN - 8/21/2008 9:37:03 AM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
that is true i wouldnt let them monopolize the market but come on a carbon copy of the cls I mean they didnt even bother to put their own twist on it. I like it but they could have diversified themselves from mercedes. thats a move kia would do

I think China is probably worse than Kia and Hyundai, but they're all bad.

I guess that all I see is a 4 dr. coupe not a carbon copy. In my opinion, the passats design distinguishes it enough to be different. I mean wheelbase is different, dimensions are different, etc.

The interior is too similar (if not identical) to the regular Passat. While I love the exterior styling, the interior is where I spend most of my time... so I'll probably say no to this car.

The same architecture but some important mods. including superb detailing of the seats, split rear seating, new wheel and other tweaks add up to a very classy interior.

The most interesting item from this?

It's the first time anyone has said that the CC will come to the states with a DSG. All previous articles have claimed it would have a regular automatic when the car came to the states.

I know I will be flamed for this - but I really enjoy the DSG. Not sure who "invented" it - but it appears to me that VW is trying to mass market it. So credit to them. I find it very responsive and quick. What other manufacturers are going in this direction? Doesn't BMW have something called DSC in the X6 and M3?

Again - no replacement for a stick - but for those who really don't want one - the DSG looks to be the way to go.

t_bonet_bone - 8/19/2008 8:38:32 PM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
I'm not so sure it isn't a replacement for stick. If the rumors I've heard about Porsche's 7-speed PDK (DSG) are true, I'll be ordering my next Boxster or Cayman with it. I'm not talking about rumors about specs, I'm talking about pros who we all respect who have driven it and say it simply feels great and is at least as much fun as stick.

DSG is better than a stick, its faster ! with paddle shifts you have total control and faster changes, you leave anybody driving the same car with a stick behind.

This car was the big hit at the Detroit auto show back in January. Although not many people were crowede around the car, this car was the nicest, and made the most sense as far as looks and usability.

Unless VW builds these in the US, this car might be beyond reach of most cash strapped Americans struggeling to keep thier homes and the abilty to heat those homes this winter.

The Falling US dollar will make this car very expensive. Options will accelerate the price into the stratosphere in comparison to standard equipment offered on American cars.
