Volkswagen Snags Top Spots In GayWheels.com Top 10 Most Researched Vehicles
Gaywheels.com, the sole source of information specifically targeted to and about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) car-shoppers, today announced its list of the Top 10 Most-Researched Vehicles during the first quarter of 2008. The Volkswagen Rabbit took over the top spot from the Toyota Yaris after a 12-month run. The Volvo C30 and the Mazda Mazda3 made their debut in the 9th and 10th spot respectively.

“It seems price and fuel economy concerns are important the Gaywheels.com consumer,” said Gaywheels.com founder Joe LaMuraglia. “60% of the vehicles on the most-researched list are hatchbacks and four of those six have a MSRP starting at under $16K.”

Gaywheels.com Top 10 Most-Researched Vehicles - 1st Quarter 2008

1 Volkswagen Rabbit
2 Volkswagen Eos
3 Toyota Yaris
4 Mazda MX-5 Miata
5 Audi A3
6 Volkswagen Jetta
7 Saab 9-3
8 Dodge Caliber
9 Volvo C30
10 Mazda Mazda3

Although information, specifications and pricing on all new car and truck models are available on Gaywheels.com, each vehicle on the Most-Researched list is offered by a gay-friendly brand. Gaywheels.com classifies vehicle manufacturers as gay-friendly or not based on their corporate policies for offering domestic-partner benefits to their employees in the U.S.

The Top 10 Most Researched list is based on website statistics gathered from January 1 – March 31, 2008 from Gaywheels.com’s New Car section. Gaywheels.com publishes its Most-Researched list quarterly.

The Toyota Yaris sure is unreliable. *rolls eyes*

Guess what? The Jetta, Eos, and Rabbit are all recommended by your favourite magazine, consumer reports, and have strong reliability according to them...

VWs are rated close to the bottom on LONG TERM reliability. even with presumably better Audis pulling them upward, the VW/Audi group gets the LOWEST mfgr rating.

they merely have to be "average" to get a "CR Recommended" rating. the bar is not very high here.

once your warranty runs out however, you'd be foolish not to DUMP these cars.

It seems everybody has an 'agenda' nowadays. I'm surprised we haven't seen migetwheels.com, trannywheels.com, or menwithwomenspantyfetishes-wheels.com yet. There's too much misplaced emphasis on diversity and not enough on unity. I think of it only further propagates stereotypes. We'd be better off if we left sexual-orientation out of what cars are being researched the most on the net.

It's not so much that gay people need special information about cars, the site is trying to build a sense of community built on shared values--their message is do business with people who share and support your values, in other words. The site identifies which auto manufacturers have gay-friendly employment policies, for example.

So, in other words, they're combining auto-shopping with politics, a little bit, and the gay-oriented part of their offering is on the politics part, not the auto-shopping part.

DW1968DW1968 - 4/13/2008 10:51:21 AM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
To W209W114 -- I disagree that this dehumanizes people...in fact, I think it's the opposite...treating everyone exactly the same dehumanizes them. In my opinion, humanizing people is about recognizing and respecting their unique attributes. There are many shades of grey between between mass marketing and individual marketing, but a list of cars which are produced by gay-friendly manufacturers is at least closer to individualization than mass marketing.

BTW, to me, the concept behind this list is no different than a list of cars which would appeal to car enthusiasts, or parents, or women, or retirees, etc.

"As a gay male myself, I must ask: Why do you think about it then?"

- I don't think about it. I thought about it (single tense). When someone mentions the word "gay", sex is one of the first thoughts (if not the first) that comes to everyone's mind. Then you start to think about the actual act of gay sex. Do I need to go on?

Why did I think about it? I don't know. Maybe it's a thing called curiosity. But I’m sure someone here will spin that and say that I’m Contemplating gayness.

Gay people tend to be more educated and have more disposable income (fewer gays have kids than straights) and the automobile choices that they make reflect this reality. Why would a gay person with no kids purchase a mini van?

Gay men, since they are unlikely to have kids, don't need lots of space or a large car. They can save money and just get a smaller one.

S4cabriofoxoneS4cabriofoxone - 4/10/2008 8:16:50 PMView My AgentSpace
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Why the hell are you getting an EX? It guzzles gas, the back seat is useless (smaller than the A3's!), it's overpriced, it's too low to the ground and it's not even particularly good-looking.

I thought it would be great. Then I attempted to sit in it at the auto show. The A3 is far superior.

finishlinefinishline - 4/11/2008 8:53:26 AM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Well, I won't use the back seat (I'd have them down 90% of the time). As for the price, with a $2000 "marketing incentive", the EX35 is selling for well below invoice. You couldn't comparably equip an A3 for the same price. The EX35 drives great. As does the A3, but I worry about the engine. I've been reading about how it burns oil like a sumbitch. So there you have it.

PS I'm still torn!
