Volkswagen aims to sell 1 million cars in the U.S. by 2018
As a part of Volkswagen’s 10-year plan to catch up to Toyota by 2018, Volkswagen of America hopes to increase sales to 1-million units within the next ten-years while focusing on four core vehicles.

While trying to remain a premium brand, attempting to compete with Mercedes and BMW, Volkswagen will price vehicles about 5 percent above its U.S. Japanese rivals. Currently Volkswagen prices cars 10 percent above rivals.

According to the new CEO of Volkswagen America, Stefan Jacoby, Volkswagen will concentrate of four cars designed and targeted for the U.S. The four vehicles will include...

It is quite clear that for VW to do this they intend on following a Toyota,Honda,Nissan model plan.That means precisely they intend on building a factory in the US.That is the only way they can be price competative and quality competative with the Big Jap 3.There is also GM,Ford and Chrysler but I think their main thrust is Japan. What I find surprising is that it's taken them so long to come to this conclusion. Certainly they have been observing the great success that Japan has had in setting up plants here in the US. Puebla may work for the Latin American Countries but not in the US.My guess is that the Passat and Jetta replacements will be sized very similar to Toyota Camry and Corolla. This means slightly longer and wider. Well it should help unemployed auto workers if the plant is set up in the midwest.It will be interesting to see.

The passat will grow to the be avalon, jetta the camry, and they'll have another entry level car for corrola/yaris
