Phaeton is the first full-size luxury sedan by Volkswagen, first introduced at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show it was suppose to change people’s idea of the whole brand.

Volkswagen did not want to be just a common man car anymore and wanted to take a piece of action from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

Unfortunately for Volkwagen Phaeton has never seen any real sales and in 2005 just 820 units were sold in the United States.

It is not that Phaeton is a bad car to drive. It has draftless four-zone climate system, air compressor suspension system, 4motion four-wheel drive. There are over 100 individual patents specific to the Phaeton. Top of the line Phaeton W12 uses a 6.0-liter W12 engine that has 444 horsepower and takes this big sedan from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.1 seconds.
