Volt mules already getting 40 miles on electric only!
In the biggest news since the initial concept announcement, GM vice-chairman Bob Lutz confirmed that in fact the first Chevy Volt prototype, with the full lithium-ion battery pack has hit the test track.

He said “It is reliably meeting its objectives. Even with a rough calibration, even with the wrong drive unit, the wrong body, etc. etc., it has been hitting its 40 miles on electric power.”

He specifically confirmed the dynamometer tests have been successful even under various thermal conditions.

He even went so far as to say “I can almost say the battery is the least of our problems,”

Why? This car is change. I think we really need to pray that this car is a success. That way we can buy one for the wife and family while we guzzle gas in our Porsches, Vettes, Ms, AMGs, etc.

This car will hopefully change the world. I truly do hope GM wins this high stakes game. Who wouldnt other than fanboys? After all, it is for the benefit of us, the consumers.

plug in or not, nobody is going to pay $40,000 for this car.

for this car to be successful, this car needs to be priced in the range of the prius or civic hybrid

Another good stepping stone. However the concept of having two "engines" in a car still unnervs me. I'd rather go direct electric...lets say somthing like the Tesla. If that were the case I could drive 200miles on a charge and if I needed to fill up...I'm sure some of those overcharging gas stations have outside electrical outlets :)...not that I would seriously condone that...or would I ;-)

Carlos Ghosn Nissan CEO has made it a priority to deliver a ZEV likely 100% electric to dealers in five years. Subaru already has the R1e. IF GM does not rush this Volt the Japanese are going to beat him.
Deja vu.

Wouldn't it be incredible if this saved American car companies? I'm ready to be part of history. Eat your vegetables boys, you'll want to remember the next few years.

How is the Volt a game changer? When GM and Toyota has already accomplished this task over 10 years ago? The electric plan was killed due to GM's political tie up crap with the Cali-State, Texaco & Chevron. It's just disappointing that 10 years later with even better levels of today's technology it's still providing innovations 10 years back...that' speaks for all brands who choose to be in this electric or hybrid game of today.
