Sales tax in most states (about 8%) and some registration fees.

The Euro to dollar exchange rate also plays into this. But not as much as taxes.

We pay 17.5% in the UK.

We pay 19% + annual road tax + carregistration tax (5000 euro for my car, to give you an idea).

You can also do a similar comparison for every model Audi makes. The numbers a pretty staggering for something like and A8W12.

If you're on a budget and you want a fast car, get the GTI. It's definitely the fastest sportscar in it's price range.

The reason why it's so cheap in the U.S. is because for some unknown reason Americans favor sedans and 4-doors rather than hatchbacks (basically Americans favor big cars rather than fast ones). Which is a shame (or not), because everyone could be sporting around in little fast cars rather than raising their gay looking trucks a ridiculous 36 inches or so.
