Information has arrived that the Volkswagen Touareg V6 TDI will be available for sale in the US early next year with bottom tags of $42,800 or $43,490 inclusive of shipping and handling.

This basic price is $3,500 higher than the V6 FSI, cash that will get you a little bit lower horsepower but will give you 150 lb.-ft. extra torque and about 4.5 extra mpg.

Choices consist of the Luxury Package for $2,700, Tech Package for $3,350, and Luxury Plus for $5,400. If you want to modify your Touareg, the rear locking differential costs $700, a trailer hits sells for $500, and you can get a smoother ride with the four-corner air suspension for $2,750. Prices are yet to be finalized though.

Bah...you can buy the Jeep CRD fully loaded for $34k brand new, with just a smidge fewer horses.

I don't see people cross shopping a Jeep against this. Competitors I've seen are the RX, MDX, ML, X5 and others. (Based on people who have asked me opinions on them wanting to buy cars in that segment)

it won't get much sales from Rx, MDX, ML nor X5. reasons are listed below:

Lexus, BMW, Benz is just in a different league, brand-wise.
people buy MDX for the available third row seat, and most importantly, reliability.

i predict this VW is going to sale at very small numbers, just like all other expensive VWs.

and its higher quality ... nicer interior than the ML and X5 too. And much stronger vehicle than Lexus or Honda/Acura. But the reality is few will pay for this level of quality without the trendy badge on the front. Their loss.

I would stay away from VW and Toureg. Had one for about 6 months. Spent 3 weeks in the shop before they could figure out what was wrong. Spend your money on better companies and products.

Mom has had hers ( a 2007) for almost 2 years and problem free so far.
Extremely well built, comfortable.. loves it.

Jeep is much smaller and the interior is criminal the way it is built..

The 3rd row on the MDX is a joke....
People will compare the MDX to the Q7.

This T-Reg will do extremely well also with the fact that not many TDis will be sent over.

People who aren't all about the flash and image will enjoy this fine built German sport utility. It is every bit a luxury as the MDX and RX. It offers a different flavor of luxury and a niche market who aren't always about the name plate. It takes superb quality control from Audi to the Toureg and does not fall short in that category. There are no compromises just because it's a VW badging. Take a look at the Phaeton. It could have easily been slapped with an Audi logo.

Pay extra money for a diesel,and pay more at the pump,no thank you its not worth it.Their dealers suck too.No loaners like Lexus.
