Set for a world introduction at the Frankfurt Motor Show this coming September is a three-door variant of the supermini called the Polo Coupe. It will come with a front section that receives its inspiration from the BlueSport Concept shown at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, tapered side windows and a beefier rear section.

The car will be powered by a 1.4-liter supercharged and turbocharged 178bhp engine. This is the same engine found in the Ibiza Cupra-patterned Bocanegra of Seat, and it will also energize the upcoming Polo GTI variant which will be joined to a 7-speed DSG gearbox. If talks hold any water, the two-door Polo will not be the only new Volkswagen in its arsenal. The last Golf Cabrio was seen 10 years ago, but there is a possibility that a top down variant of the MkVI hatchback could be launched next year.
