WHO Has The Sexiest Face? Audi Or BMW?

One of the best premium car design strategies you can have, is to have a consistent family resemblance across your product lines.

The two companies employing this strategy best in the market today are Audi and BMW.

Audi has really upped their image in my opinion with the new LED light strip being shown on all their new cars and the iconic BMW Corona rings or Angel eyes (whatever name you prefer) are unmistakable on the road.

I'm sure everyone has their own opnion of who is the sexiest face.

So who is it?

Which one makes you swoon the most when you see it?

if you look at the front of the M3 and then look at the front of the S4 i mean not just being a BMW fan but the M3 has that "make you stare effect" over the Audi. I dont care who disagrees with me but the truth is in the pictures

BMW's are scary when they come up behind me. They look so intense. Their stare makes me want to get out of the way.

I bet this will be a difficult assignment for many people here. Try to stay on track. Just a reminder: Audi OR BMW.

Again, TWO choices - Audi or BMW.

Not three choices, but two and those two choices are?

None. Hate to break it to you but its Mercedes-Benz.
All the Audi's look exactly the same; yeah brand identity, so what... they still all look exactly the same. Bimmers got that kidney grille so there alright, but I still say Benz - 150%.

Why should it ever do? A car that looks the same as S class is called... the Mercedes S class. Still C/E/S unmistakeably come from the same car maker.

And Audi's approach is not consistency, it's ridiculousness.

They just make every possible car look exactly the same. You pay for an A8 and get something that is barely distinguishable from an A3. Which is a Golf, only costs more.

The holy grail of styling is to make brand recognizable by some fine details and general proportions, not by employing the same design again and again, only stretched horizontally (sporty models) or vertically (SUVs) according to needs.

I agree with MrBratwurst -- aside from Audi, where the front of the cars make them indistinguishable from one another, pretty much every car looks different somewhat from the other cars in the family. All BMW models have a kidney grill, but the grill isn't the same across the models. The lights, bumpers, etc. are also different. Same with Mercedes. They are ALL identifiable as BMW or Benz models though, and that's what counts.

As for which one looks the best from the front, it's Mercedes, no question. Their designers are coming up with some very good looking exteriors, and that's coming from a BMW guy. It's too bad about those new Benz interiors though...

The thing is with Benz, is that a Benz is a Benz, and it will always be a Benz. Nobody will ever mistake it for anything but a Benz, even though each model has its own sub-identity. You can't say the same thing about BMW's latest design trend. *COUGH! COUGH! 2009 7-Series front end slapped on all the latest models.* (Next-gen 5-Series and X1, probably the next-gen X3 too.)

I have to agree that Mercedes Benz simply has the more superior front than either BMW or Audi..A plus is that each model is unique in its own way yet still retaining the Mercedes factor..My fav being the S class and the new E class..However I like the LED's on Audis..

My vote goes to Audi, at least they have been trying to do something different with the bigmouth grills. I really hated them when they 1st came out but Audi grills have really grown on me. BMW seems like they are trying to hard to do something different with their front clips.

I really like the LED lights of Audi but the big grille ruins the design a bit for me. On some cars like R8 and S5 it works but on others not so much. So i would say BMW, not great in one thing but more balanced look.

I hope Audi change or minimize their grille a bit on future cars just like VW going back to small grilles from audi-like shield grille.

Audi's new LED lights are NOT standard on every model. On the A4 2.0T the LEDs are optional. On certain versions of the A6 the LEDs are also optional. However, the LEDs are standard on the A4 3.2, S4, TT-S, TT-RS, A5, S5, Q5, R8 and pretty much guaranteed on the upcoming A8.

Pretty much on all upcoming models.........

BMW. Audi has a loud mouth grill. Remember less is more on a luxury vehicle.

Type707, WTF do you drive? A Volvo? Even a Lexus ES350 seems over the top when compared to anything Volvo has to offer. Less is more... my ***, (if that's what you think then...) go buy a Hyundai Genesis.

The Audi BigMouth Grille combined with these new LEDs really sticks out big time.

The Audi LEDs are much brighter than the BMW corona rings which certainly have a clear yellowish color to them. The Audi LEDs instead glow pure white.

Hate it or love it, you definitely know when an Audi is coming at you, except you have no idea which one.

BMW. Even though I own one and I see it all the time, the corona rings always get me, especially when I see them in the rear view mirror or passing through the other side of the road. It's something 100% BMW. On the other hand, I now see everyone putting fake LED lights on their cars -_-.

You still know it's an Audi coming at you regardless of the fact that all the other cars are adding LED lights because the Audi grille is absolutely enormous on all Audi models.

That is what is called building a true brand identity. Whether you like it or not is a different story but if you see a car with a massive front grille coming up behind you it is nothing but an Audi.

...and FYI, I'm almost positive that it's called the 'Goatee' grille, and most certainly not the 'BigMouth' grille.

Audi no question. BMW with its "Ring of Fire" lighting wasand is still is very distinctive. Audi's new lighting not only stands out from everyone, but the grill, now being copied, also makes a statement. Audi, now because they are different, are beginning to show up in various commercials, (LOVE the commercial when all the kids come out to the" just like mine" suv's at the school) IRON MAN, Transporter movies (if you can stomach that type of movie) and Hollywood's 81st Academy Awards ceremony: A fleet of 40 white Audi Q7 TDI Clean Diesel cars chauffeured the stars to the red carpet and tons of actors are showing up in Audis all around Lose Angeles as the new brand of choice, It is what it is...

Just because Anna Faris drives a pink Toyota Prius during 'House Bunny' doesn't mean it's cool. What about the MTV awards a couple years back, I could almost swear they used a fleet of Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrids. The average John & Jane don't even associate Audi in the same regime as Mercedes-Benz and/or BMW.

Jordanski you are on crack to think no one associate Audi with BMW or Mercedes. What planet are you on? In Europe, the A4 has replaced BMW' s 3 Series as the best selling entry sedan. Well you read it for yourself.

Luxury sports sedans are made all over the world, but nobody does 'em quite like the Germans. The BMW 3 Series has stood as the champion of the segment for decades, but not anymore. According to government records of new vehicle registration, the Audi A4 was the best-selling premium car, beating out the 3-Series, along with the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

By the numbers, 98,714 A4's were sold in Germany over the course of 2008, making it the second most popular new car in Germany behind the Volkswagen Golf. But lest you think Germans are enamored only with Audi's new A4, which was introduced last year, the A6 and TT also topped their segments, contributing to the strongest growth (or weakest decline) in the German market and across Western Europe.

The innovators in all-wheel traction and aluminum construction saw their entire market share rise last year by 0.8% to a total of 8.1% of the German new car market, details of which you can read in the press release after the jump.

I live in California, and uh, Audi is selling extremely well because people are tired of seeing themselves going and coming in BMW and Mercedes. They are trend setters and Audi is the new in sedan. It is what it is and not liking it doesn't change a thing. Grow up.

Hands down goes to Audi for the sexiest face. Are you kidding me? Don't get me wrong the 3 series has the best face in the BMW lineup but lets be real here. Audi's conservative looks must have some compensation.

Mercedes Benz looks far better than either BMW or Audi. BMW now seems like a company in search of a consistent design direction. Audi simply takes the same, one-note design and applies it to each vehicle. Mercedes, on the other hand, is classic, solid, bold.

Does anyone even notice the way the car looks? Most people who lease these cars only focus on the emblem, could look like a dumpster for all they care.

BMW's coronas are distinctive although aftermarket parts sort of ruined it for them (BMW's headlight shapes are not uniform in their lineup).
Audi's LED strips aren't consistent across the lineup (Q5 has it on top as an upsidedown L, A6 has it on the bottome as a stripe etc).

I'd call it a tie although the Audi nose does look more aggressive.

I have to give Audi my vote though a few of the BMW's really look nice.
The LED are not just a stying feature. Brighter Whiter better Visible =
safer. LED's use anout 40% less power. Less drain on the vehicle and it's operating systems and the have a longer life so less replacement costs.. Not to mention that Audi is leading in the led game and the industry is behind them. Think S6 then look at Porsche, Honda concept, MB GLK upcoming and many more

Audi leading in LED game? Lexus LS600h was the first to use LED headlights. Audi is the first to use both high/low beam LEDs.

No one said Lexus wasn't the first. Audi owns LED with the application offered on all models, not just the flagship. Lexus dropped the ball and Audi ran with it.
