While the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid was suitable for the long journey from Detroit to D.

C., GM CEO Rick Wagoner is not giving up the chance to show off the company’s progress being made on the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid. According to Automotive News, Wagoner will make an obvious attempt to impress lawmakers tomorrow morning by driving from his hotel to the Senate in one of the Volt prototypes.

It's NOT the car companies, it's the Union are their demands for more and more money.

The Unions have a problem with money and they need more and more every year.

The real problem is ignorance the UAW has not demanded a dime from any of the big3 in over a decade. The fact is we have been working together to change the old style of business since the mid 90's. We have worked very hard with GM to stay competitive. YOU rarely don have a clue what's going on because the news only wants to make public all the negative and not the vast good GM and the UAW have together.

60k is barely middle class in this nation, and as far as education many 'educated' people wouldn't assume everyone that works in the auto industry has only a high school diploma.

Sure. GM invested a billion in Hummer while Toyota was investing a billion in hybrid technology. And GM even had the nerv to laugh at Toyota saying they'll go bankrupt because noone will ever want to buy those things. That was 5-6 years ago.

But blame the workers who make $28 an hour. It's easier that way.

And yet the national avg. for a FAMILY is $42k, yet one guy making $20k above that considered bad...in Detroit of all places?? Since when did working on an auto assembly line considered "white collar"?

By your estimation, all of those college educated employees still couldn't figure out a way to build a decent car to compete with the Japanese. Well, at least they have their education when they get let go.

The national average of 42k gets you no where in this country you cant pay for gas food RENT (becuase you could never afford to BUY a home) and transportation. After taxes with 42k you are in poverty. BTW 60k is 20- 25% of our work force and the workers that make that has been with the company for about 25+ years.

Here we go again folks with this "nat" UAW1 and his buddy, Neutral (another fool). YOU don't know crap UAW1. My brother worked for Fords 32 years (just retired) and I had to listen to many of his union's horror stories.

Let's get one thing correct, there have been numerous consessions (based on what I just ask my brother in his plant - Sterling Height, MI) that the UAW ask or wanted. You're such an idiot who just babbles without knowing any facts. Stop smoking that funny tobbaco again. If you think the UAW has "not demanded a dime from any of the Big3 in over a decade", then your so full of yourself your eyes are brown. Now click your heels 3 times and you may be back in Kansas. What a fool!!
