Watch out Evo and WRX: Porsche 911 GT3 does the rally thing
This may put an end to Mitsubishi Evo’s and Subaru WRX’s popularity in the rally world. Belgian Tuner Futureworld worked with Porsche to develop 10 Porsche 911 GT3 rally cars that will be taking part in the German Rally Championship. With a price tag of 125,000 Euro, the Porsche 911 GT3 rally car is powered by a 3.6 liter 6-cylinder engine that produces 381 horsepower. That is 95 more than the Evo and 81 more than the WRX.
The Porsche 911 GT3 rally starts rally racing later this year.

It might bring popularity to a 2.0+ class.

Let's talk when this Porche competes in the WRC.

A stock GT3 weighs 3,075 lbs, according to Porsche's website. Of course, that's after undergoing weight reduction from the 911, but BEFORE adding AWD. It looks to me like one of two things will happen to this car: either they won't give it AWD and it will struggle for traction OR they will modify it to AWD but make it too heavy to compete with the WRX's and EVO's. Remember: WRC is about a lot more than power-to-weight ratios - light weight is primarily a handling issue when the friction goes down...

No negative tone, but it's really not the place for porsche... but I take offence from "this may put an end to.. blah blah" like anyone can just walk in and take years and years of experience and perfection away just because they make good road cars, they've worked very hard to be where they are (subaru and mitsu) and they deserve the dominance they have...

Correct me if i'm wrong, but domination over the WRC, that's Citroen and Ford, not Subaru and Mitsu, even if they make great competition...
for the rest i agree with your argument about Porsche ending whoever's dominance in the discipline, because the long history the existing competing brands have here!

This just might start a horsepower war. Subaru just might put it's flat six in...That would be interesting , who has the best flat six?

I am a 100 percent positive this is a GT3 Cup car rather than a run-of-the-mill GT3 road car, which the racer weighs in at 2535 pounds. In late 2004 and early 2005, Marc Duez, former rally champion, brought Porsche back into rally racing when he used the 996 GT3 Cup car at the Ardennes Bleu Rally in Belgium. This concept sparked Aston Martin to develop a V8 Vantage Rally car of its own and Porsche will supply rally teams with GT3 Cups as well. The cars are in the Group N class. Here is a picture of Marc Duez's rally car at Spa Francorchamps doing an ice rally in the GT3 Cup: http://www.spa-francorchamps.be/gfx/report2005/050226abrallye/images/GX6J1516.jpg

Considering the price of the Porche it better outperform them all! I am going to laugh if/when the much cheaper evo or subaru beat this porche with the oversized engine. I don't dislike the porche, its just too much $$ and it has too large of an engine to compete so of course it is going to dominate because there is nobody else.

So much misinformation in here.
Porsche dominated rally before Subaru, and Mitsu did. The GT3 chassis with awd won't be over 2600lbs(do a search). Last but not least we are not comparing a 35k STi/Evo. A well prepped, welded, and caged STi is pretty pricey too. Most of the time the initial car cost is the smallest part of the budget.

the A76 mitsubishi lancer crushed the porsche rally before. So, the porsche did not really dominate even at that time.

Subaru and Mitsubishi aren't dominating anything. Citroen, Ford and Renault are dominating the World Rally Championship.

they changed the rules that is why they are dominating. it used to be 4 doors, now they are using hatchbacks that is why the new subby is a hatchback and the evo x will have a hatchback.
