Watch out Fisker Karma: Hybrid Technologies working on 220mpg supercar
While the two are busy suing each other, Hybrid Technologies is doing some R&D on its own new green supercar that could arrive on the market as early as next year.
Hybrid Technologies is working on a lithium-ion powered hybrid that will be entered into the Automotive X Prize as a gas-electric hybrid but will be offered as an (almost) all-electric supercar for the rest of us. The company says that a working prototype of the un-named car will be ready by September.
Hybrid Technologies said they are aiming for a 150 to 180 mile range for the all-electric model, while the lithium-ion gas-electric hybrid will...

220mpg , that is impressive! I would like to see this in a family car or suv at a reasonable price.

I couldn't agree more. There are way better applications for the technology than throwing it into some racecar that probably weighs no more than 1200kg, and has a 3 gallon fuel tank. The average consumer won't be able to afford this car. Prove it works on a much more realistic level first.

I don't think this should be their problem. Those are their money and they spend them as they want... This is not their responsability, this should be the government task. If you think like that you sould blame all those rich people for buying bugattis, yachts and private jets instead of using their money for public or charitable projects.....

I understand and respect your opinion, but it is very important at this early stage in the game to get people excited about hybrids/electrics, and to see the potential. This is war! We can't defeat the perception of gas engines being the only enthusiast choice without winning battles in all types of cars. In the end, which car is greener? A Prius, that people are used to seeing, or a one-off hybrid supercar, that convinces 100,000 people that hybrid technology is pretty damn cool?

Uh...whoever wrote this article should have done their homework first.
Tesla's car is 100% electric. It's not a hybrid.

It would be like the halo car for hybrids... remember, thats the reason that Dodge builds the Viper, Nissan builds the GTR and so on. Makes the brand seem cooler and better in the eyes of the consumer... might be what hybrids need to get a jump start in the eyes of the public so they say, maybe that isn't so bad after all.
