I just can't believe that this rumor is true.

Even if it is for such limited production and mainly the Japanese domestic market, I just can't see how a carbon fiber IS-F can compete at this price point. In this rough price range, you could have a Ferrari 430, Lambo Gallardo, Aston Martin DB9/DBS, Porsche GT2, Audi R8 V10, upcoming Mercedes SLS, Mercedes SL65 or even two Nissan GT-R's. A $250k IS-F is absurd.

If this rumor is true, I think the Lexus executives are out of their minds. They should have put the resources used to the develop the Evolution to making the regular IS-F better. Why create a $250k special version when the regular IS-F has been consitently bested by the M3, C63, and RS4?

Its time for Lexus to move up. As Hyundai is knocking on their door, they have to build cars such as this to be seen as a big boy Luxury make. The LF-A Sports coupe is going to $150K, why not an ultra high performance sedan for this price.

Lex I'm not a Lexus fanboy, but if they go further upmarket, thats good news for us here at Hyundai. Maybe the Next Gen IS might not be Corolla based as well. By each sucessive generation, I do see more differences from it being a souped up Corolla.

No one will buy a Lexus for $250K especially an IS-F. $250K i'll go buy myself an Aston, Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, Ferrari, Lamborghini. I wouldn't even pay that much for an LF-A, let alone the IS. Lexus is getting too ahead of themselves.

I dont work for Hyundai upwards, but I have been driving the things for a long time. They are Soul of a car, and you have to treat them like the naughty litle girls they are. You cant Baby a Hyundai, or you wont get what you want out of it. Good Power and MPG, Hyundai top fuel econ=75 MPH, most other makes=60 MPH. Try One!!!

I seriously doubt the validity of this price. LF-A's rumored price had people rolling their eyes. And that vehicle is supposed to be in supercar territory. The only way anyone will pay 250 grand for a car that looks like Jimmy's 60 grand IS-F and delivers slightly better performance, is if it has a built-in flux capacitor. I'm a big Lexus fan, but for that kind of money I'd be visiting the Ferrari dealership. Lexus didn't get to where it is by making stupid decisions, and setting 250K price for an IS is precisely that.

Progress to create a hotter, lighter Lexus IS F is ongoing, and according to recent reports from Japan, the IS F Evolution is slated to arrive in the summer of 2010.

Details on the Evolution are still unconfirmed, but as reported previously, Lexus is focusing more on weight reduction and handling than it is on power modifications. According to 7Tune, the harder IS F is likely to shed over 300 pounds, dropping the overall curb weight to around 3,400 pounds. Carbon fiber will be used extensively both inside and out, with more prominently blistered fenders fore and aft, and the costly weave used liberally throughout the interior, including the console and seats. Output will rise to around 422 hp and carbon-ceramic brakes are rumored to be fitted at all four corners. A total of 500 examples will be available worldwide, but with a price of around $250,000 U.S., most Evolutions will be sold in Japan.

If our green tea leaf reading is correct, we’d expect the Evolution to debut at the Tokyo Motor Show this year, although judging by the price, don’t expect it to be available on U.S. shores…..”

BMW might not have a supercar... but they've built the engines for some of the fastest cars produced. Put the Lexus up against a McLaren with a BMW engine. I mean... sure the McLaren costs over $1M... but that makes about as much sense as comparing a $70K BMW to a $250K Carolla.

New rumors that the GT Killer IS-F from Lexus is out and about being tested have sprung up. Sources in the know say that at a recent test drive event put on by the maker, the IS-F was rapidly drawing closer to production and has been slated for a summer 2010 release.

The big news is that the car will now only be limited to a special production run of just 500 units worldwide! Don’t hold your breath, but the IS-F will come in at US$250,000, a cool $50,000 higher than first expected. In an age where auto-makers around the world are drastically cutting production, closing factories and focusing on greener more economical cars, one company is going against the grain. Cue the Lexus and the IS-F. This four door 5.0l super sedan released back in 2007 was originally slated for only 500 units per year, but its success here in Japan has seen waiting lists grow and now, building off its success, Best Car reports that a face lift is in line for this ‘family sedan’. Albeit an all black carbon lighter wider one.

Carbon Four Door Sedan

Earlier last year Lexus had been busy working on a higher spec version of the IS-F with initial reports then pointing at increase in overall power up to 435ps and some carbon parts to go along with it. Unfortunately, due to the worsening economy and poor car sales this was put on hold, until now. Fast forward to 2009, post new GTR, and Lexus have stepped into high gear with 2 test mules already been completed and currently going through testing.

Lighter, Better Handling

Sticking to the trustworthy and reliable image, Lexus has decided to stay with the current engine setup and instead focus more on handling and weight loss with the revised version featuring an all carbon updated front bumper, rear bumper and larger rear ‘over-fenders’. Remaining panels will also be ‘carbonized’ to match the revised parts. Continuing the carbon theme and possibly taking cues from the new Spec V GTR, the car will also be complemented with carbon ceramic brakes, again reducing weight and improving brake performance. Putting all of this to the ground new ‘special color sport design wide wheels’ wrapped in 245/35/19 front and 275/30/19 rear tires will come as standard issue. Body colors will vary, but there is a high possibility that the car will come in an all carbon version for all carbon lovers out there.

Inside Brush Up

Sources also point to a re-hash of the interior with front seats getting the carbon leather Recaro bucket treatment and leather being clad onto the buckets in the rear. An all carbon console will also be employed to reduce weight. Total weight savings from these changes are said to add up to around a 140kg weight saving all round. Whilst this may all sound like the ultimate family ride to church on Sunday morning, it will all be coming at a cost. Initial estimates hovered around the US$100,000 mark, but final estimates for the car will be climbing past the Spec V’s US$170,000 territory and chances of getting change from a cool US$200,000 are slim. As with the current IS-F though, production numbers will be limited to only 500 per year, so maybe its time to start saving and lining up.

Unfortunately Lexus will sell all of them because there are car fanatics around who $250,000 is pocket change to. Back in the real world the rest of us can only wonder where the value is in buying a Lexus in this price range. Is there exclusivity (1/500)? Yes. Will most of the general public know that you have anything but an odd looking Lexus? Probably not. Does it perform better than other cars in that price range? This is yet to be seen.
