What Brand Makes The Most Unergonomic And Poorly Designed Interiors?

I want to say that's a mid 90s Pontiac Grand Am....it definitely has GM written all over it. Am I right?

What brand makes the most unergonomic and poorly designed interiors?

Tell us specific models you've owed or driven as well that are just plain nightmares inside.

Well, let me start.

Any pre XF Jag and the last Toyota Prius.

The ergonomics on both weren't making it for me.

Ford Focus. Completely unintuitive, ugly, uncomfortable, cheap-plastic feeling.

At the polar opposite level, I got to sit in a Tesla model S today. While unfinished, the quality of the leather and finish were fantastic and the center console was insane. It was like having a 17inch iPhone that controls everything in the car... menus and controls were very intuitive. The steering wheel was one of the best I've ever felt.

Heck NO! The last 3-4 years Honda Civic, fugly! Plus when I drive one if I stretch the seat out to get enough footroom then my arms are completely straight and I have to lean forward to grip the wheel. Plus, any Scion what in the hell is Toyota thinking? Butt Ugly!

Range Rover, the newer models quality seems better, but armrest cracks, veneers peal (the vinyl covering ) very disappointing. Control knob under the armrest a joke. Latch for glove box came apart and the panels felt like they would pull away if you tug at them enough.

Well, my Mercedes had to have the entire interior replaced when the finish began flaking off of the dash, console, doors, etc.........so I give them low marks.

Taking a ride in my brother in-law's new Camry, I pointed out that his dash seam is mis-alligned! The center stack looks soooooo cheap! I thought I was going to be impressed, but wasn't. My niece's Honda interior is far nicer and higher quality. Toyota seems to be slipping. I'll stick with my American made car, the interior is far better.

Agree, why always those lame topics? There are pics of the refresh S class, spy shots of the Ferrari F450, and countless other good stuff out there on other sites. Autospies needs to step it up. You should run a topic on which website is starting to get boring and lame. Autospies is gonna be in the top five.

I rented an 08 Pontiac Grand Prix the other day and was totally amazed at the poor design and quality of the interior. None of the textures matched (dash to glove box door to A-pillar covers...). It was impressively awful.

Oh, and it squeaked and rattled like a covered wagon. It is no wonder they are going down.

The Lexus RX. My old lady has one. Maybe I'm just too tall for the car, but the front seats are too small, they lack enough cushion length to provide any useful thigh support, they don't slide back far enough, they don't tilt down enough, it is impossible for me to find a comfortable driving position in that vehicle. It also lacks an ipod connection - it's an '09. Lame.

Least Ergonomic: 90s Mercedes and BMW. For example, if you look at a 95 S class, there's a large cluster of small buttons on the center console, small digital readouts, and personally, I found seat adjustments attached to the seats next to your thigh was more intuitive than the adjustment knobs attached to the door. Each function would require you to take your eyes off the road (if even for a split second), even for the power windows, with the way they were placed on the center console (brief check to make sure front windows go down instead of rear). Kind of ironic considering the German's typical reputation of their priorities on driving focus.

Worst Design: 90s GM or Ford. The plastics look like they belong on children's toys and not on a car you may end up owning for the better part of a decade. I wouldn't be surprised if they were Mattel approved to be safe for children under the age of 3. I mean, who'd be able to swallow those buttons right? And remember when Ford tried to go modern with the jelly bean Taurus? IMHO, the 80s produced the worst cars, but even their interiors had some flare to them.

Conversely, I find the Mercedes/BMW designs to be quite exquisite (except the C class) and give GM/Ford decent marks for ergonomics (for all their ugliness, every function was simple and intuitive), even though the Japanese still had the edge in that department, again, IMHO.

My goodness. I thought the exterior of my co-workers new Honda Pilot was gross. We went to lunch the other day and I just found out that the interior is also a mess. Honda is trying to hard to look futuristic with their new interiors but they are looking cheesy in the process.

There are a number of really ugly interiors. And though they are not the ugliest, by far, I believe that BMW is worth noting as "Yech" because we know they can do a lot better. The once-purposeful design has yielded to fashion and gadgets. iDrive for a simpler *looking* dash, than a better-working one. Expensive and exotic materials that look cheap.

Please, BMW, return to making wonderful and attractive cars whose greatest sin was being a tad conservatively styled.

American trucks are the most unergonomic and poorly desigend interiors! They haven´t changed since...since the beginning. Compared to european trucks who leads the ergonomic interior, ahed over the cars realy. Because its a working area and it must be good designed to prevent human bad health.
