What if the next generation 2011 BMW 5 Series will look like this?

I like it. The hood reminds me of the last gen 5-Series, which was always my favorite. I can definitely see some 1-Series in there, and I love those LED headlights.

Looks very good. A downsized 7er, only more regular. BMW plays it safe. It's the VW/Audi way - you can dig the car or say it's nothing special but you'll never say its fugly. This works, apparently. Could have been more aggressive and "sharky", IMHO.

Moreover, Germans say:
- barely traceable increase in length (+2 cm) since cars start to outgrow garages, +8 cm of wheelbase
- start-stop everywhere (maybe brake energy recuperation too?)
- no more naturally aspirated 530i, biturbo with direct injection instead (like, say, in Audi), V8 with twin turbo in 550i, I6 twin-turbo in 540i, both mated with 8 speed autobox
- somewhere in the future a thermocouple to turn some waste heat into electricity
- electric power assist
- line keeping assistance, recognition of roadsigns and bystanders/strollers on the road
- radar-guided cruise control working in traffic jams
- Internet connection so that drivers can watch pornography
- i-Drive with more auxiliary buttons (like, say, MMI in Audi)
- blend of aluminium and steel since aluminium only is too expensive
- dynamic drive adjustable sway bars (similar to Audi Drive Select like, for instance, in Audi)
- torque vectoring rear diff (like in X6 and, for example, in Audi)
- maybe hybrid (it's the highest time to introduce one! Like Audi!)

-Or like, say, the 760, which introduced DI, you know, before audi.

-Which, like DI, was a concept introduced on the 7, before, you know, audi.

-Which again, you know, appeared, like, in the early 2000's in BMWs, long before, say, audi.
"torque vectoring rear diff (like in X6 and, for example, in Audi)"
-Close, but, the X6, like you know, beat them to the punch.

Kinda sad that a company that supposedly 'never follows' doesn't innovate or create, but instead hates and imitates.

Front end looks better than the current 5 series. But it should be more. More aggressive and unique. Headlight's design is very common like VW golf/Eos, Honda civic and bumper is very empty looking like an half open mouth.

If that is the new design, MB E is OK with the new look cause it is better looking car than this one. Even Audi A6 looks better.

A few comments for the E60 haters: I've owned nine (9) BMWs. Six of these have been 5 series including four (4) E39 cars. Loved them all. Have owned an E60 (545i) since March 2004, and it is by far the best of all. By the way, three of the E39 cars were 540is. Seems like there are more people out there like me since the E60 is the best selling 5 series ever! I personally love the way the car looks and rides. Its performance, even now after 5 years of driving, is still unequaled in a mass produced luxury sedan! The only weakness with the car is the runflat tires which I got rid of years ago!
