What is Ford’s strategy to improve vehicle quality?
Have you driven a Ford lately? Well we haven’t, but apparently their quality has been improving. It’s no wonder that the struggling American auto maker stole the J.D. Power and Associate 2007 Initial Quality Study. Ford’s Lincoln division moved up to the top 3 of the list and here is the reason why.

Long before production began on the 2007 Lincoln Navigator, Ford yanked 100 of its best hourly UAW workers and sat them next to engineers, designers and suppliers in Dearborn...

Here is a strategy for Ford to improve automobile quality: STOP MAKING CARS. Imagine: If Ford quit building it's cars, then the industry average for auto quality will improve exponentially. Ford's cars are so bad, they depress the entire motoring world.

Also to vvelez: Ford was never on top. They were always second in America to GM.

If they do the right thing and can prevent self-sabotage, I think they can bounce back....but it is going to be a process lasting a few years....2-3 years at least. They really need to not only increase levels of quality....but also stop feeding the market any product they think will work or might work.......I think they need to do something DYNAMIC.....
1.GET THE MONDEO AND PRICE IT STARTING AT $25,000 FOR THE BASE VERSION AND TOPPING OFF AT $33,000 FOR THE POWERFUL VERSION.....A CHEAPER, PROBABLY BETTER LOOKING ALTERNATIVE TO THE EURO & JAP SPORT SEDANS WITH THAT MOVE IT WILL TAKE ON AND BE IN A POSITION TO BEAT ... VOLVO S40, ACURA TSX & TL, BMW 328, LEXUS ES & IS, MB C CLASS, TOYOTA CAMRY XLE V6, TOYOTA AVALON TOO.....SAAB 9-3, AUDI A4......AND SO ON. THIS CAR (MONDEO) CAN SELL WELL!! THEY NEED TO TAKE ACTION IN THAT DIRECTION AND SCRAP PLANS WHICH WERE MADE BEFORE THE SH*T HAD HIT THE FAN. IT HAS NOW AND THIS IS THE KIND OF STUFF THAT WILL GET THINGS MOVING.
2.STICK TO THE PRINCIPLES WHICH HAVE MADE THE F SERIES SO SUCCESSFUL....BUILD HIGH QUALITY TRUCKS AND THAT ONE IS DAMN GOOD!!
3.GET RID OF THE OLD FOCUS AND STOP WITH ALL THAT SILLY CHROME....THAT NEW CHROME LOOK IS TERRIBLE....AND IS HARDLY LIKELY TO DRAW IN THE BUYERS.....GET A NEW AMERICAN FOCUS OR THE EUROPEAN FOCUS. BOTH SEEM LIKE GOOD ALTERNATIVES AND ALSO GET THE SPORTIER VERSION.
4.GO GREEN....TO AS GREAT AN EXTENT AS POSSIBLE.....AND
5. A FEW THINGS MORE, FOR WHICH I REALLY AM SHORT OF TIME TO WRITE AT THE MOMENT....MAYBE A LITTLE LATER.

You mean people don't want giant chrome grills on compact and midsize cars? Why not. Chrome and plastic go together like oil and water. Oh wait...those don't go together.

Ford has to do just one thing to turn itself around. Build a Mustang that dosent have a rear axle. (well ford has to do a whole bunch of things to turn itself around but personally that's the one I want to see)

Wasn't that the whole concept of the mustang in the 60's. A cheap car with a tight suspension that was lightweight with a powerful engine. The mustang was the ponycar (a racetrack car)not the muscle car(dragstrip car) it's moved into now (and don't anyone start quoting ths Shelby Cobra or the Boss versions)

Hopefully Ford will take a look at what GM is doing with Cadillac...heck hopfully all of GM will look at what GM is doing with Cadillac.
