Where Lexus got its inspiration for the new IS design?

With all the new car design critiques, the trend lately, seems to be controversy over the rear end styling.

Well, it's no different with the new IS-series from Lexus.

We think this will be either a love or hate feature of the new car, just as it has been with the newer BMW's.

It will be interesting to see the public's reaction.

In the past Lexus has been accused of copying a lot of the Mercedes design queues...

In the case of the IS, we think the company that might make those accusations this time would be Alfa Romeo.

What do you think?

The new IS, while a million times better than the outgoing model, still looks a bit forced, like the design isn't as organic as it could be. The designers seem to have forced the rear lights to give the car some attitude, and I doubt wheather those Kenworth-inspired wing mirrors help the mis-match shape.

For a 21-century car, the rear light clusters look dated, matching the dark and dull interior, which doesn't look very inviting.

It makes the new 3-series look more natural and original, and I would have no trouble taking the effortlessly elegant and seductive 166 over the 'I try to hard' IS.

The new IS looks fabulous and is going to spell more trouble for its competition in the US. Both the current and revised BMW 7-Series is one of the ugliest cars in the world that can only be rivaled by the likes of the Aztec, Escalade, and Avalanche.

As for the Alfa comparison -- forget it. The new IS is light years better looking. Very modern and beautiful. North American IS sale should at least double in the first 2 -3 years after available.

But, the bulging rear lights is a copy of the Infiniti FX. I think car makers are responding to original designs in rear lighting by Audi (in it's going out model A6 as well as some of Volvo's recent concepts such as their concept made by women for women). Sadly, some just miss the point (BMW 7-series is still butt ugly!... as is the 6-series,5-series,Z cars ... the 3-series is not butt ugly but it does look like a Korean styled car).
This Lexus model is not as striking as I expected. It seems they decided to go conservative, again. Oh, well. Lexus still is playing catch up in the sporting and styling departments.

Only the light lens, and placement everything else is different. I'm sure with the money toyota has their design crew does not have to copy other makes. It's sounds like the car looks so good that its making people nervous, and it should.
