Which Are The Most And Least Expensive Vehicles To Insure?

I'd guess the most expensive vehicle on this list would be very close in cost to the least expensive.

very pointless list unless you buy one of the 'best selling cars' ...why cant they just do it for all cars under 100k? All under 50k? And so on...that would be worthwhile.

My New Lincoln Town Car is extremely reasonable to insure. They tell me it is because the Town Car is considered one of the safest cars on the road with the 5-Star Fontal, Side and Roll-over Crash Rating. Even so, I cannot believe how low my premiums are, even with Half Million dollar liability protection. Frankly, I thought they made an error, but more than one person checked, and they said no mistake, this really is your premium.

This is a much larger factor than the cost to gas my car, but even so, I get 22 MPG on the Highway with the Town Car because it is only 2 wheel drive, and requires far less gas than my 4WD Mountaineer at 16MPG, both vehicles are powered with the same 4.8L V8.

Not many people know about the Town Car advantages, because Ford simply does not market this car, they don’t have to because it is their most profitable car.

accord, altima, corolla and prius are among MOST expensive?!

I’m unsure what people really mean by an ancient platform, is this a bad thing? The Town Car rides firmly upon a real frame, giving it a stiffer, firmer feel, almost truck-like. You feel very secure behind the wheel. A real twin rail frame is nice, you stick a floor jack under the car, and raise it up from almost any spot. Try jacking a unibody, you need to get the manual out to find a safe jacking point. What gets me is that everyone today wants a more durable car, qualities you find in the more conventional platforms.

Why theft rates?
There are 20 cars put in order of cost to insure. 2 lists were created to make a dramatic effect. They could have simply had one list that consisted of 20 cars. There is probably a negligible difference in cost from the cheapest to the most expensive. These are ALL among the CHEAPEST vehicles to insure.

How could the list be incomplete? Insure dot com selected the 20 best selling vehicles, then put them in order of cost to insure.
Similarly, a family of septuplets could be put in order of age. There will be an oldest and a youngest, as long as they are all accounted for, the list would be complete. Probably not much variance to the ages, but nothing is guaranteed. A hot rod will not be found on either list (septuplets or 20 best selling).

I'm surprised the Civic is on the least expensive list. Usually it's on the most expensive because younger people usually buy (and wreck) them. And of course we can't forget about the rice rockets.

I would have expected different. I can actually confirm its different than what they post.

I used to own a 2002 Civic Coupe, that thing was expensive cause it was the EX and they rated it in the same class as the Si. I now have a 2005 Toyota Matrix XR AWD which is classified as a Corolla/Matrix since they use the same frame and engine. My insurance dropped about $50 a month with the same company, same coverage.

Also the Civic is a highly stolen vehicle as well.

Insurance costs also differ depending on what area you live in. In southwestern CT rates are higher than most other places. My fiance had a Cabrio 00 when shew as in Virginia. She moved back home and her rate went up like another $150 a year.

My current insurance is $150 a month. I'm 26 and pay about avg. for my area. Can't wait till I'm married in July, rates are gonna crash, woohoo!

I live in New York State, one of the highest cost Insurance states in the Nation, and the insurance on the Town Car is still very reasonable. I have no intention of ever paying anything near a grand for one years woth of insurance anymore. I was at $2,000/yr on my Trans-Am, never again, to do so would be utter foolishness.

Dodge brings out the worst in minivan drivers?

Badge engineering affects insurance rates? The Town & Country and it's sister the Caravan are the SAME MINIVAN under the skin. How in the world can one be at the cheap side and the other at the expensive side of the insurer's scale? Do statistically bad drivers prefer Dodges over Chryslers?

How else can this be explained or justified?

I notice it, I tend to avoid minivan drivers as they tend to pose a threat, as they are generally distracted on the phone and tend to drive recklessly. They often swerve without turn signals, or fly up on you quickly without seeing the obvious stop light you are stopping for. Driving near such vehicles simply raises the chance that you could be in an accident. Generally, less sophisticated cars, bring less sophisticated driver.
