Which Is The MOTHER Of Under $50k Premium Coupes?
Sorry 00J.

I'm tired about talking about gas prices so I'm bouncing your top story today in favor of MOTHER'S.

First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers who take/took such good care of us and give us unconditional love, even when we don't deserve it.

And speaking of mother's...Let us know which coupe is the MOTHER of all under $50K premium coupes.

Is it the Infiniti G37 or is it the BMW 335i?

Voice your opinion below but be nice, because today, MOM is watching!

BMW, hands down. New styling of G37 render is anonymous, with no road presence. Performance is good for both, but so it is for the Honda Accord Coupe, too. I'd actually vote the Accord 2nd to the BMW. Or actually, maybe 3rd to a 2nd place A4.

No wonder you're flattered by the BMW, it pretty much looks like the last gen Accord coupe! G37 not only has more road presence, the exhaust note can sell this car all on its own! Performance wise you're splitting hairs but pricewise, we know who wins that contest. Leatherette anyone?

G37 certainly turns your head and conveys the image of premium sports coupe. However I'll vote for 335 for the Mother of it. With $10,000 more, you got to be able to do it.

The only department Infiniti should work on is refinement. That aside, I would say the Infiniti takes my vote. But until then the 335 is the best.

You've got to be kidding me, if you think the 335 coupe has more "road presence" than the G then i think it's time to visit your nearest oculist. Seriously tho, while I do think the accord is pretty cool looking and an "ok" performer in the end it is still a fwd econocar with some grunt.. Please don't compare it to the 335 or the G :(.

K. I will bet you a bragging dollar the 3 series can be raced faster than the G37. Skidpad G numbers don't mean much in real world racing, nor do slalom numbers.

For someone named F1 Driver I figured you would know better than to think the 335 can't beat a g37 on a track. I think both are great cars, however the BMW seems to feel thicker and more complete. now for the money the G37 wins hands down, and it is a sharp looking car, but performance and luxury I have to say the BMW wins that one.

My response was to the idiot above who implied Leatherette is on BMW's. If he had any clue about the brand, he would realize that 99% of BMW's have the premium package and it's very very rare when one gets leatherette. BMW doesnt even have cars on the lot without leather.

I have now owned both a BMW and now the Infiniti. They are both great drivers cars, I think we can all agree on that. I wanted to buy a 335Ci coupe in the worst way but I could not get past the interior design. I'm sorry but that dashboard looks like it was pulled directly out of a 1985 Ford LTD! Also the flimsy cup holders would send any beverage flying when taking a tight twisty. Throw in a hard to use GPS / I Drive system and the fact my last BMW had to be serviced 5 times during a 2 year lease and you have my Answer. I have a G37 with 4 wheel steer, sweet 6 speed shifter and a voice recognition GPS system to die for!! Opps, almost forgot - they actually give you an IPOD interface and the cable for free! Also I can leave my key in my pocket and just push the dash button for free too! (Both of these last two options are $500.00 each from BMW) nuff said!

The BMW 3 coupe is a sexy vehicle. The exterior styling is very appealing.

The G37 is very masculine vehicle. It makes a bold statement.

I dont like the interior in the BMW but I would probably lean towards it, especially in a convertible. But overall I would probably put them at 50/50

infinit should have spent the extra money and gave it interior worthy of a car in this class, i mean seriously, the CLK, A5, and 3 series all have interiors that belong in a luxury car, the G37's interior is no nicer than an altima

My local Infiniti dealer offers that free maintenance as an incentive also. If I can remember, it only costed about $300 - $500 extra to have the free maintenance. Also, Infiniti offered a bumper to bumper warranty up to 100k miles and 6 or 7 yrs for $1200 - 1500. Not a bad deal.

I'll give you the MPG, I priced both the BMW and G37 for insurance with 3 places beofre I bought two were about the same one was lower for the 37. As for maintance, these cars are pretty much maintance free except for oil changes and wiper blades. In my case over a two year lease thats maybe 200.00 - Free maintance is almost required on the bimmer as it does not even have a dip stick. Also BMW only gives you one oil change a year (How would you like to buy one of those cars just off say a 3 year lease with just 3 oil changes over 45,000 miles - yikes!)

335i , is a better performer and it is the mother of coupes under that price range, why? because with 30 less horsepower than the infiniti it still kicked the infiniti's ass on the track. Its a looking coupe too. I just wish that the Audi A5 or S5 had more power for their price. I also dont understand why audi isnt in this comparison. I love bimmers but I also respect audi, because of their exterior design and interior design and quality. As for people talking about reliability, I just have to laugh because if you have to price to buy it, you can probably pay for its maintenance.

you cant compare horse power numbers they arent compared the same. Infiniti takes its ratings from the engine while bmw takes it from the rear wheels thats about a 20% or so loss and everybody knows bmw understates there hp numbers on purpose. If it was compared the same the hp ratings would be about the same.

Mostly subjective her but I'll take a stab:

Price: Infiniti hands down here.

Straight Line Performance: the N54 is flat out amazing and even though the G37 has better topend power, i'm a low end torque type of guy. BMW FTW

Handling: A wash unless you believe in the "magic feel" of the BMW.

Looks: I prefer the look of the Infiniti. The BMW is not ugly, but the exterior of the Infiniti looks more "Premium" to me.

Fuel ecomony: The BMW has better economy but we are not talking 4cyl hybrids here. I would not buy a sports coupe for economy, so to me that's a wash.

For my money, I would pick the G37

Stone....

This is almost too easy!

BMW for all practical purposes invented the (relatively) affordable sports sedan. The 335i,the latest iteration, is still the King of the small sports sedan hill. (Er, excuse me, I meant Queen - this is Mother's Day after all!)

The Infiniti G37, while a very able contender, is still not the equal of the BMW 335i. It is cheaper, however.

an arguable point. nissan had the Datsun 510 way back in the late 1960s/early '70s. they even came with irs. many were used in club racing.

granted, there's a lot of water under the bridge since, and nissan sorta dropped the ball on sports sedans since. for export markets anyway.

the GT-R maintained the sports sedan tradition in japan.

the 335i is the best, it has the quality, refinement, performance, and styling....the G37 doesnt have the refinement of the other cars in its class which really refinement really is important in a LUXURY performance class car, the interior quality, or distinctive styling(not that it doesnt look good, it just looks like an altima coupe), it is cheaper but its interior and lack of refinement show where they cut cost.......

I never, and really never, liked any of the previous Accords, but the new coupe looks great, far better that both of the contenders up there. As far as performance goes, 0-60 figures are meaningless, mpg... thats another story, Accord 4 me. Interior, I'm sorry I know this is in the eye of the beholder and I dont care if I piss some people off, its my oppinion, never liked Bimmer's interiors and the Infinity's are somewhat... OK. I made this decision and went with the G37. BMW interior is just too boring, plus the Infiniti was biggest bang for my buck. I'm in love with the sound of the exhast, and it's a great driving experience.
I personally think the car is sexy. Some may say there is no street presence, but there is tons of parking lot presence. For the first month I drove the car to work, people from all levels of management (entry level to directors) would come by my office to ask about the car. I did not expect such a response since there are much faster and more expensive cars in the company. At times I'd walk out to my car to find a group of guys standing around my car. It was weird, but let me know I made the right decision.

I love these comparo's - Some of you mention that the G37 has a cheap interior. Have you actually been in one? Driven one? The seats are to die for and nice driver oriented touches like the instrument binnicle moving with the power tilt / telescoping steering wheel. BMW's is a lever way under the dash someplace. Also the manual BMW I drove had a shifter that while nice - was not as buttery as the G37. I loved the older BMW's my E46 had the dash that tilted towards the driver - that was cool - now its an ugly straight dash plain cheap looking and rather ugly. My wife thought the BMW coupe exterior looked "girlish" - once she said that I was done with that choice! By the way she is now driving a 2008 328 coupe with no extras because she could not work the I Drive. I also love the music box hard drive in my G37 again not avialable on the BMW. Actually if Caddy does it all right on thier mew CTS coupe I might be there in 2 years - we shall see!

I'm sure you love your bimmer as much as I like my current G37. But please not a close second??? I thought they were very close. There were subtle driving refinments in the 335 to be sure. wow, cheap interior in a BMW, this coming from the owner of a nissan 350Z with four seats parading around as a luxury car......god awful......the only thing infiniti has been able to get right with its vehicles is the performance, they lack quality, and refinement things that make a LUXURY/PEFORMANCE car, anybody can make a sports car not everybody can make a car that is as luxurious as it is performance oriented, the only reason to buy a G37 over any other car in the class is you like the 350z but need a backseat, because otherwise thats all your getting........

there is a reason why the altima, maxima, g35, g37 and 350Z all have prices that overlap....there is no quality difference, which is why mags keep saying how poor the interior of the G cars are, and how they lack refinement they had to cut costs somewhere and its obvious where, very obvious

The BMW's interior is "not cheap"... It is made consists of much higher quality materials than can be found in any infiniti, lexus, or acura. These materials are just not "blinged out" which to me makes the G37's interior look cheap.

I have driven them both and own the 335i coupe. The leather seats of the BMW will age and hold up much better with time.. Same goes for the dash, buttons and all other interior materials on the BMW and for that matter all BMW's..

Just because something looks more expensive does not mean it is higher quality. I would love to see a G37 and a 335i with the same number of miles and usage 5 years from now and then let's compare the interiors. I bet you anything the 335i will look much better than the G37.

I've owned both Lexus, Infiniti, MB, Acura, Audi and several BMW's and know for a fact that the German makes hold up much better over time..

Americans only build the Z4, X3 and X5.

The X3 is made in Austria, not the US. The X6 is also made in the US.

amazin, I have a 328i in the garage. My wife drives it and I was shocked when I took it to the store the other day. Sorry for me the G37 is it. Power Tracks like on rails, interior kills the bimmer, many more features and amenties that BMW does not even offer. seats better shifter better - in fact amazin, I have a freaking BMW Visa card with 50,000 points on it I cant even use (I was planning to use on a down payment) lol Thats ok thought you got yours and I got mine and were both happy - life is good!!

I like things about both of them. I like how the BMW has everything you could look for in a sport sedan. I also like the looks of it. It's a great car. But for the G37, I really like how Infiniti emphasizes their Japanese heritage instead of disguise it and make it seem like they're European. Take Lexus for example. They're good cars, but it seems like they're ashamed to say they're Japanese so they make their cars with European ideas. Infiniti builds a true Japanese car.

335. The rear of the G37 looks awkward, to me. It gives me the impression that it's not 'finished' design-wise. The 335 is a much more elegant shape. Not that the G37's a bad car to drive at all... but I still think it's 'not quite there yet'.

The Stars of the Detroit Auto show this year was the VW Passat and Audi A5/S5.
Audi A5 was around $50K. Seems like a lot of car for the money.
I like BMW, but you have to spend a lot to get a lot.

The falling American Dollar will push likely Import car prices higher though. With people losing homes, and upside down in their current car loans, most will probably have to wait for the economy to get better.
