Which New BMW Is Generating The MOST Interest At Dealers In The USA? M3, 1-Series or X6?
It's common knowledge that BMW has one of the most, if not THE most enviable product portfolios in the business.

And the new vehicle product assault just keeps on coming.

But which new model is generating the most interest at BMW dealerships in the USA?

Is it the M3, the 1-Series or the X6 SAV?

At the BMW event tonight, an insider told us that USA dealers are gettng lots of people interested in ALL the new models but the X6 has FAR AND AWAY the hottest buzz surrounding it...

In one way I'm surprised that it's not the 1-Series but this is the land that LOVES it's SUV's.

Are you surprised?

Also, why do you think the X6 is the most interesting to the inquiring customer's?

UPDATED: The photo gallery is updated with more photos and we urge you to keep checking back...we will be adding LOTS more shots overt the next few days.

What BMW does best is that they enter new product line ups in a new car category before any other manufacturer, like in this case the SUV coupe category which never existed before, and also introducing fast compact 2 door cars, which until the introduction of the 1 series, nobody was really bothered about. So BMW has a tendency to read new market demands early, and thus their product planning and production of new type of model is the earliest among the luxury manufacturers. Actually if you guys think you'll know that it was the X5 that really popularized sports active vehicles, which until X5s emergence was not played out by other manufacturers.

But i still think BMW X6 is a plain ugly car, especially since an upcoming land rover derivative of the LRX to compete with X6 promises to look much better.

Add the 1 series to that list. I just don't understand how a company will juxtapose those 2 ugly cars w/ M3 beauty.

I can buy the idea of coupe-ish SUV, but not the X6's "bald-head" design. As for 1 series, I really love to find out who paid $40K for something smaller than Civic coupe. They cannot even afford extra 5K for a 3 or what?

"As for 1 series, I really love to find out who paid $40K for something smaller than Civic coupe."

If you're buying a one series for practicality reasons then you're really missing the point big time. The 135i has been hailed as BMW's best handling car by some reviewers, it will run rings around a civic coupe.

'and also introducing fast compact 2 door cars, which until the introduction of the 1 series, nobody was really bothered about.'

Audi S3? Golf GTI/R32? Astra VXR? Megane/Clio Renaultsport? Alfa 147 or Alfa GT? Hell, even the old Renault 5 turbo! There were plenty of fast small 2 door cars (unless you really mean 2 door and not 3 door). BMW was very, very late to that segment. Audi kick-started the premium compact segment with the A3 back in 1997.

Rupert, those are hot hatches, okay the difference isn't massive, but some people don't like hot hatches like some people don't like SUV's.

BMW have been making fast 4 seat 2 door vehicles since the 60's & 70's, so the 1 series isn't a new concept or anything, just one that currentley has little competition.

The Audi A3 didnt necessarily kick start the premium compact segment either. The BMW 3er compact 323ti was out in '96 with the compact being introduced in '94 - maybe not BMW's most glamorous model, but then neither was the original A3's FWD golf underpinnings.

+1 to Rupert. Also, the 3 series used to be the same size as the 1 series. The 318ti was an effort by BMW to make its then-smallest car more accessible, and despite the car not selling well, it was acclaimed as a fine-handling vehicle.
I don't know how you can compare the 1-Series with the Civic. They're different cars, for different purposes.

farabira1farabira1 - 4/8/2008 8:12:07 PM
+1 BoostDrop the Boost Up the Boost
Rupert i know about the existence of Audi A3, Golf Gti, Vauxhall Astra hatchback and others, but they are produced and sold only mostly in the European market, when i said that BMW has first in introducing 2 door fast compact cars, i meant it to be in the NA market and i was comparing BMWs effort to that of Merces Benz and Lexus because in the North American Market when you think of the competitors, those two are the only major rivals to BMW. And besides i don't think Audi sells the A3 in US, never saw one, and all those cars you mentioned are hatchbacks, which the prev 1 series was like, and what American's don't like that much. The new 1 series looks more car-ish, so that is why i said 2 door compact car, not 2 door compact hatchback.

The X6 is generating the most buzz because it's the most unique of the 3 new Bimmers & arguably the most unique car released in the past year, & don't nobody twist my words as I said the most unique, not the best.

More powerful? Whoever knew that Lexus' 5.7 380 hp engine was in fact more powerful than BMW's 4.4 TT with 400 hp! And I highly doubt the LX is more fuel effficient, plus it's a lot slower and handling? What a joke.

This is just another indication of a market segment that Infiniti/Nissan invent and other companies capitalize on. It is my opinion that this is in direct response to the success of the FX 35/45. That said, it is one great looking SUV. I can't wait to see this up against the FX50.

Working at a BMW dealership, I've seen more consistent buzz around the 1 series. It seems that at least those in the northeast are excited that BMW might be going back to its roots. The X6 is nice, but I think it's the 1 that will remind people most what BMW's all about.

Ok, now I know that this site has to be getting paid by BMW. It seems like every other day there is an article about a new BMW or a comparison that has a BMW in it. Come one now Agents, have a little less bias in what you report on.

That being said, I am a BMW fan, but not a 'Fanboiiiii'. I like the 1 series a ton. I had an E30 325is for 12 years and this car reminds me so much of that car. Its size and tossability with (135i) 300 hp and 300 pound-feet on a RWD platform. I drove this tiny monster and all I can say is 'Holy Crap, this thing is fast.' Finally BMW is getting back to their roots of small, nimble cars.

Granted this doesn't keep me from looking at other cars. I am looking forward to the new Camaro. It is taking GM a long time to develop this car but they are going to do it right. Especially since they are testing it in Germany.

I could care less about the X6. It looks cool but if you have more than 2 kids, it is worthless. If I just had 2 kids and wanted something cool, X6 over X5 but I don't make $150K/year (yet) and I have 3 kids. So it is a moot point.

Well, I guess it would depend which area you are talking about. For the dealership I work at, the 1 series is creating the most buzz because of the achievable price point. EVERYONE comes in to drool over the new M3, but the price point brings them to reality and the fun car they want is the 1 series.
The X6 is no doubt creating a huge buzz, but the 1 series here in chicago has brought a lot of people in the door.

There is not really a market for the X6 except those that enjoy niche vehicles. And if anyone is aware of the automotive market, they know that the majority of niche vehicles, especially expensive ones, are not door-busters in terms of sales.

However, dealership interest is a different topic. All three cars will probably generate a lot of interest.

but the M3 has legions of followers...so plenty of attention there.

1-series is last of the three. while impressive performance for the price point, it's hard to compete with its big brothers for attention.
